Mid 70's Jeep Factory 4 door truck!!

Here is a picture of jeep engineer Charles Houston with a 4 door jeep truck in the mid 1970's. He is the tall guy post up on the fender. I found where jeep corp in Australia made some for customs and forestry service in 1985 but none prior to that as far as i can find. There is a story behind this one, just wondering if anyone else has seen a factory built mid 70's 4 door jeep truck??

Are you sure they were factory built? There have been a number of corporations (Centurion, Magnum) through the years specializing in extending standard rigs.

Paperwork will ruin any military force.

Yep, factory built!! Story goes,,, Mr. Charles built it and took his family on vacation in it. Brought it back and exec's at Jeep did not think a four door truck had a future. They crushed it... The picture has no date on it but jeep started the wood grain panels in 75' i think, and by the ladies hair doo,,,, that would be correct. 75'-76'?? Apparently Mr. Charles was an R&D engineer. He also put an automatic in a couple of CJ5 super jeeps, no VIN# either, but he managed to save one from the crusher. I have posted that in the CJ Forum.

I did manage to find this, apparently they did build 12 short beds and exported 10 to Sweden

Looks like an extended wheelbase.

My extended cab is not factory or 4 door but reduces the bed to 6

Family found more pictures. The picture was developed in June 1973 so the truck build was earlier than i thought.

These are cool shots. I've been toying around the idea of building one of these soon. Some look buggerded up but this is cool

Those pics are amazing. Reminds me of my Gramp's old truck.
