Ignition Control Module (Ignitor) - LX-401 1975-1977 AMC Jeep

Hello, just doing some updating on my 1975 Jeep Cherokee S and I was replacing the Ignition Control Module
and found the single black ground wire taped up under Ignition Control Module, surely this ground is to be grounded
somewhere, but where ? Thanks

The black wire was about 6" long and had a bullet connector on the end. It should be mated to another black wire with the female end of that connector, look around the fender in case it has just dropped down. If not then you can ground it to anywhere but make sure you get a good ground path or the module can be damaged.

Thanks, The only running problem that I have is driving at 75 mph after a while it dies and always restarts again , maybe this is the problem, the ground ?

Could be a cracked coil, the module should eventually melt if it had nowhere for the energy to dissipate. they heat up and the crack opens and you die.

The ignition system in that year was Prestolite and earned the nickname of Prestocrap for a reason. I've swapped one of mine out for a GM HEI distributor (258 inline 6), and the other for a '78-91 Jeep Duraspark distributor w/large Ford cap and rotor and Ford TFI coil (401 v8). This one happens to be controlled by the GM EFI system that's also installed, but you can use a GM HEI ignition module with the Duraspark distributor. Google Jeep stealth HEI for more info.
