Looking into picking up a Comanche... Need your help please!

Hey guys
I am looking at an 89 Comanche in the next few days.... Ax15, 4.0 5speed... I think it's a pioneer model (has tach and a lot more gauges than my Cherokee)

Anyways, the owner says his rear end has the spider gears welded... I don't know what this means...

What is the most cost effective way of changing the rear to stock? Is it dangerous to drive it that way on hard surfaces?

Cheers!

Ok so I'm reading this is a cheap way to achieve locking differential?

Sounds like it isn't the safest to be daily driving it... Does anyone know my options as to returning the rear end to stock? Will I need a whole new axle and differential?

Sorry, I am just learning as I go...

You'll need to swap the axle or replace the spider gears. Swapping the axle would be the cheaper option. Unless it's a Dana 35 rear though I'd just drive it as it is. It's not dangerous, you'll just wear tires out faster if you don't change your turning habits and turn slower.

All it does is keep the rear end locked. I wouldn't do it on a DD you're putting a ton of miles on, but if it's a project car or a toy for you I wouldn't worry about it.
