buying a 89 comanche, what can you tell me about it.

I am going down to pick up a non-running 89 Comanche on Tuesday. $600 has a 4 cylinder with a 4 sp, rwd. I have been told it will run if you use starting fluid but won't stay running.

the body seems to be in desent shape, has a ding in the rear corner. minor hit. interior looks ok.

So my questions are:

What rear end will it have?

How hard will it be to make it a 4wd?

Swap out the engine, it has 135K on the that is in it now.

Any suggestions on other things to do to it.

Thanks for any input.

I have an 89 with the 4.0l, converting to 4x4 is easy, pretty much just a bolt in affair. Not sure if the 4 cylinder / 4 speed complicates that. If you are looking to do an engine swap, I would buy a donor Jeep with axles, transmission, motor, interior, body panels, etc etc etc and just swap over what you want and part out/ scrap the rest. I would pull up the carpet on your MJ and check the floor pans for rust. Mine had no rust anywhere, except the drivers floor pan was rusted out.

For $600, I can repair a rust issue in a floor pan as long as it is not in the frame. I will keep you appraised of the situation and pictures after Tuesday when I bring it home. I am looking forward to a little project for the winter. We have a big swap meet up here in Washington in the middle of March.

Before.
After. Not fancy, but cheap, sealed, and it won't rust again.

So this has been sitting for 4 or 5 years. Has 135k on the odometer. I figure I will need to dump the tank and flush it out as well and flush the fuel lines. anyone know how to clean out the fuel injectors or does this have a carb. I will need to go thur the whole thing to make sure it is up and going.
