Heated Seats and Heated Steering Wheel Shut Off

I just purchased a new 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk yesterday. I am noticing that when I turn on these features, they shut off in five seconds. I am reading that it can be multiple things. The uConnect software is up to date. Any insight as to what this could be and how to do a quick fix? Any help is appreciated.

They are dependant on the outside temperature, it has to be cold enough for them to work. Thats my understanding. But being so new, let the dealer figure out what is exactly going on.

Can you return it? I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with the same issue. I have had it in six times for this issue (yes six times, ) I still have the issue! At first I thought it was just me, but it was not. I am also noticing my radio button on the steering not responding right away. Now I noticed my locks are not always responding. All of these issues are random and hard to duplicate and still unresolved. So frustrating for my first Jeep which may be my last.

Angry Same issue with our 2017 Grand Cherokee!!!!

I am having the same issue with a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee that we purchased a couple of months ago. The steering wheel will warm up but turn off after 2 minutes. If we turn it back on it warms for about a minute. This is not what it does in our 2015 Grand Cherokee or in my fathers 2016 Grand Cherokee. I am seeing this pop up in several threads. I am guessing there is an issue with some of the heat modulators.

Good morning fixa2th,

Has your dealership addressed this for you? If not, please let me know. If you'd like to make an appointment, we can create a Customer Care case for you and follow up with the Jeep is in service.

Not fixed yet

I just left the jeep dealership in Davenport, IA after they called me and said my 2017 GC was done and they had installed a new heat modulator. Shocking...it didn't fix the problem. So now they STILL have my jeep and want to put a new wire harness in the steering wheel bc they feel that it must have a short in it. They said they really do not know why it is shutting off after only 90 seconds. To me, if it was a short I would think that I could not turn it right back on, but I can...it just turns off in 90 seconds. On my way out I stopped by the sales desk and told them to run me numbers on trading it in, bc I don't feel confident it will get fixed...we have only had this GC for 3 months...so frustrating.

I love the heated seats and steering wheel. What I wish is being able to control these from my steering wheel controls. I have 3 unused spaces on the right side of my steering wheel. it would be cool to be able to assign functions to buttons on the steering wheel for what is needed. Or give the option to have more option icons loaded into the uconect dash. I can now control my heated seat on the connect but nothing else unless I enter the controls screen.

Heated seats and steering wheel are manually activated, unless you're talking about remote start. I'm not sure if they are activated automatically at a certain temperature with remote start, as I haven't used it enough.

According to the manual, remote start activates heated seats and steering wheel when the outside temperate us below 40 degrees F.

Actually you can control this through the Uconnect settings>Auto-On Comfort. selection is Off, Remote Start and All Starts. I have mine set to all starts. This only turns on steering wheel and driver seat, wish i could include the passenger seat as my wife doesn't like a cold seat and I have to go out and manually turn on her seat when we go together. This function only works from 40 Deg and below.

I have a 2017 Grand Cherokee Trail Hawk and have been having the same issue that you mentioned, I have had it to the dealer for services of this three times; they have done several things including a "software up date" and a replacement of the heated seat pad that they stated had a short and that made the heated steering wheel not operate correctly. Each time I pick it up if work for a minute or two and then shuts off and when I turn it back on if it works at all it's for a matter of seconds.

I'd like to know if this is only a Trail Hawk issue since I am considering trading this one in for a non-Trail Hawk model.
