I have a rattle that only seems to happen when running over bumps - sounds like front passenger side. Vehicle has less than 5000 miles on it. Any one else have this issue?
Louis99: It could be as easy as something like a loose shock or control arm bolt that needs tightening up to ball joints and bushings. My best advice (and I'm just a shadetree!) is to jack up one corner at a time just to get the tire off the ground and start pulling and twisting on the tire. Up and down/Left to right. Feel for play and listen for knocks. If that produces no results, lay under it (safely!) and feel around for loose fittings. Maybe even take a wrench to the exposed bolts just to make sure they are snug. Past that, we'll have to wait for others to chime in. I don't think there are many new Cherokee owners on here but usually knocks and rumbles are more of a universal problem rather than year/model specific. Good luck!
Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.
I have noticed a similar knock, just need to get it up in the air for a quick inspection prior to taking it in. I have < 4000 miles on ours and I want to say it started about 500 miles ago.
with only 1 post I doubt the original poster will be back..... That being said, I jacked mine up and nothing made noise or was loose. What I did notice was that the front portion of the hood could be flexing just enough to make a bit of noise. No clue and waiting for it to get worse.
I finally got the time to take to a local dealer. Waited 2 hrs for them to tell me the mechanic drove the vehicle and could hear a "subtle" sound. Seriously? I am a senior citizen and I hear the noise clearly - nothing subtle about it. The service manager told me that hearing noise when going over bumps is normal - really? This is about Jeep Cherokee #6 or 7 that I have owned- I have lost count - I know what they sound like. They asked me to leave the vehicle with them "for a few days" so they can check it out.
[UPDATE: the dealer just texted me to say they cannot find the problem yet]
Just an opinion - but my 2015 Cherokee Limited was a FAR better vehicle - no problems (or rattles) whatsoever.
I will post again with the results when I get the car back.
It took them a week to fix this. Problem was bad passenger side front strut. Covered under warranty as car is only 6 mos old. Lesson Learned: if you have an unusual problem, take the vehicle to a big city dealer/repair shop where they see more problems and the techs probably have more experience.
Hi Everyone,
Just joining the rattle thread as well. My Jeep has very similar condition as described here. However it is hard to replicate on regular roads, but as soon as I take it to gravel it is right in my face I took it to the dealer and they returned it with statement that it works as designed.
Is there any way to statically check the struts and confirm proper operation? I doubt the tech from the dealer will be willing to go with me looking for the gravel piece of road...
Thanks a lot !
P. S. I've got 13K miles on it and besides this issue and the cabin squeaks ( not cool for a new car) .. I am loving it.
The Jeep dealers have a device they can put most anywhere to record sounds and where they are coming from while actually driving the car. This lets them narrow down the area of the problem. Try a different dealer or call the district office to complain.
No the sunroof is closed. Scotlands too cold to open at this time of year ?UOTE=gotswap;39686722]I have noticed that when I am on a washboard road and the sunroof is all the way back it will rattle. Same with you?[/QUOTE]
Keep us updated on your dealer visit. We're available via direct message and would be happy to help in any way we can. Very sorry for any inconvenience you experienced.
Best to go to a large dealer with a fully equipped shop. They have a device that can "listen" to various sensors they place under the hood and other places so they can pinpoint where the noise is coming from while the vehicle is being driven. If the problem is not the struts, maybe something in the various "arms" for steering? Just a guess. Please post when you get resolution.
I have a 2017 KL Overland w/ 15,000mi. and am experiencing the same issues with a front end rattle. Passenger states is coming from passenger side front. To me (driver) sounds like it's coming from the rear. Going to make an appointment for the CC recall so will have the dealer check it out.

I have a 2017 Cherokee Overland. At a little over 4k miles I heard something coming from right front passenger side and felt it was the strut. Took it to dealer, Service guy said the tech could not hear anything. I asked the Service Manager to ride with me. He said he heard a noise. Made another appointment for them to "try to find the problem and it would take all day". Ok that day it only took them less than ½ hour to find the problem because the first thing they checked was the strut and it was the strut. Had to come back for a third time but they fixed it and according to the service manager they replaced everything involved with the strut/shock. Rides like new again. I've very lucky to have a dealer with good service. Best of luck to you.
I have a new 2017 Jeep Cherokee - new with only 6000 miles when same front rattling started. Dealer replaced all strut mounting brackets, etc. .......................rattle still there.

I have a rattle\vibration on my 2017 GC that only occurs when I am cruising along and press the gas to accelerate. The "rattle" seems to come from the driver's side and somewhere underneath. Anyone else have anything similar?
