eigene, article is based on everyone having a sound diet. most don't. processing and packaging of food has decreased the nutrition. imho, a multi vit is not going to hurt anyone and may do some good.

EugeneTheTJ 09-18-2014 08:48 AM

Or could do harm.

I will save my money and use it elsewhere.

That is my opinion, though. Just wanted to share the articles.

Very interesting. I'll need to do more research.

Totally agree.

I've taken them and not felt a difference; I've stopped taking them and not felt a difference.

Hoodwinked by the "fitness industry."

This is exactly what folks who make a lot of money selling fitness gadgets and "supplements" want you to believe.

Yes I too agree, For marketing perspective they are featuring the products as the best supplement and also give too many ads stuff. But in reality all things are fake.

I think it’s interesting that the first Scientific American article says that “some physicians said”... I’ll certainly say that MDs are great if you’re bleeding to death, but in my opinion it's best to stay away from them and their questionable pills.

They, including the pharmaceutical industry needs sick people and they don’t like competition from people seeking alternatives which drives these kinds of articles. Yes, I’ll agree that just taking a multivitamin is not targeted, however Americans largely eat nutritionally void diets due to all of our cheap, processed foods. I’ve run into diabetics that stuff their mouths daily with McDonalds while their trusted doctor has them on synthetic insulin with its own long-term side effects. I have a family member that eats a lot of crap, is horribly overweight, and his doctor has him on questionable pharmaceuticals instead of telling him to clean up his diet and lose that gut.

Also, I personally work in publishing. You know what the two top-dollar advertisers are these days? Law firms and pharmaceutical. In fact I was just having a conversation with our ad representative firm and how their suggestion was to increase the number of medical articles that we publish to increase our chances of landing pharmaceutical advertising, and believe me those article need to be pro-pharmaceutical, not about people popping vitamins. Just saying...

Multivitamins don't exactly make it worse.

Paullino 05-28-2019 07:55 AM

Multivitamins are useful if taken correctly.

Henry842 10-01-2020 12:06 AM

I get my essential nutrients from natural sources. The results may take time to get noticed but the process is worthy of putting the effort and time.
