ZJ Rear Bumper Build

Thought you guys would like to see the bumper I built for my ZJ. The center section is 3x3 3/16 tube and everything else is 1/8 plate. The deck is 1/4 diamond plate. I'm pretty happy with it. It was my first big fab project, and first time really getting friendly with a MIG welder on my own.

thanks guys. i'd say it took me a good 25 hours total. everything was cut with a angle grinder or portaband which was fairly time consuming. i was also designing it as i went which took a little time.

here's a pic of it from my most recent trip to rausch

Way prettier than the one I've got in my head. I'm working up a swing out tire carrier.

I don't have plans to plate like yours, but it's super nice. Good work.

One question, what did you use for the D-ring brackets?

yeah i plan to do a tire carrier too someday. maybe this summer if i get to it.

i bought the d-ring brackets off ebay. easier than getting thick steel and trying to drill them out.

i used 2x2 1/4 tube for the mounting. they bit inside the frame rail so i cut off the top for the first 6" to weld in nuts so i cen run bolts up from the bottom through the hitch and body into the tube. i welded the tops back on for strength and capped the ends to prevent mud/water from getting in. first pic in the first post shows where the mounting tube runs.

Im not trying to thread jack but My bumper is very similar in fact the only big difference (see pic below) yours follows the red line. Great minds think alike. Any plans for a swing out like mine.

i really like yours, it looks awesome! ever since i finished, i wished i would have followed the line you did. i think it looks way better. I have everything for the tire carrier, still trying to figure out a good design. can you post more pics of the hinge and latch?
