extending firewall/

This is my first vehicle doing real fab on so I need help making sure I'm not over looking anything.

I essentially turned my YJ into a CJ. I ripped out the heater and have a 318LA engine now (distributor is with in fractions of an inch of firewall.) I placed heater in the center because passenger side gives me some issues with battery tray and if I place it higher on firewall, like I would like to, Im not sure there is room behind the glove box. The outlets for my heater core are now where my distributor is. ( Didn't see this until the end.)

My idea is to add a rectangular extension to the center towards the cab. Give the fire wall an additional 4ish inches in the center on the engine side. Allowing my coolant lines to be routed around the distributor.

Any thing wrong with this besides the fact water being so close to electrical.
You guys have a better idea for heater location?

heater is 7.0625 in. H x 7.4375 in. W x 7.375 in. D

You swapped the motor and heater, and basing those decisions on not messing up the glove box? It has to move, motor comes first. You don't live in AZ, heater comes next. Get those done right then come back and ask "Where can I put my gloves?"

I don't have an option to move my glove box either because its a CNC cut dash. So the somewhat easiest solution I saw was to move the firewall back.

the easiest would be to call a plumber and have him change where the heater hose connections come out of the box to a different location on the firewall. going to a close 90 degree elbow and spacing the heater away from the firewall is easier than cutting up the firewall.

At this point in your project, since the glove box is the main thing in the way, I'd make the glove box part behind its door a lot smaller. Maybe just a small tip out bin attached to the door. The photo is for a kitchen sink, but helps show you what I'm thinking. I'd leave the firewall alone.
