14 Bolt front

Well its time to start another prodject. I have a good friend that wants somthing different, so last month while it was cold as heck we decided to make him a 14 B front.
Why, well its different and he wants to run around 500 HP threw this axle, so why trust a 60 when God made the 14 bolt.

First we started with cutting up a perfect HP 60 KP axle, one of many "on the pile"

Whats left is the HP 60 center section, dont worry we recycle

And on the 8th day, God created the 14 bolt...

Then I started to pull the 14 B apart, left side cap marked with one punch.

Right cap two punch marks.

back the adjusters off after I removed both caps.

Install the C into the lathe just to make sure it would fit, this is just a quick mock up here, yep fits fine.

Made a quick bad Vid. The lighting was all off but i had very little time between cuts to mess with lighting and making the vid, so pardon the poor quality.

Im not going to go into to much detail about the Jigs I made, its not that its a big secret anyone with half a brain can figure them out heck I did, its just they took alot of time to make.

Finsihed C that will slide into the Pass side short tube. The 14 B will get all custom shafts, im thinking 300 CTMs.

In the tube.

I was making some center pucks from a some 5" 6061 Alu. I picked from my buddys scrap yard, but after doing some quick messuring and some tweaking I was able to use the center pucks I made for the Eaton build a few years back.
So the first pics are the Alu being cut and starting to turn them, last one is the center puck installed without the centering Heim joint.

Old steel pucks in the axle with caps down tight.

Did you have to pinch your self, LOL>

Well I got the other side tube machined down to fit the ID of the 14 Bolt tube. When done the axle will be at 68"s WMS.
The difference in the step size allows a nice pearch for a weld to sit on, plus it will be a 100% welded joint when I'm done. Also I will have 4 plug welds and a super itchy truss locking it all in.

Pics,

More to come.....

Ya those are the same seal retainer plates we ordered, nice product.

I'm not going to assemble this axle, like the gears and inner axle seals, I'm leaving that up to my friend. But he is going to use the stock 4.56's, full spool and the custom seal plates.
Plus instead of CTM's he is going to use RCV's, should be plenty for a full throttle attack on any rock pile.

I should have it ready for final welding buy the end of the this weekend, I'm crazy low on Mig gas, so Monday/Tuesday I will bring it to a friends shop and use his welder and likely spray them on.

222Doc I will take all the friends I can, thanks.

Nice setup ! Shave in the plans or large enough rubber to get it up in the air? Wheeled with a scout a couple weeks ago and may I say 14b+35's=nickname "sir snags allot" he plowed a mild trail and it was made difficult for those behind him

84 xj 350tbi, sm465, 203/205, 60/70. links and other junk.
what size sawzall blades does it take to fit 40's?

Yes stock C's off of a HP axle. My friend wasn't planning on running a rear engine buggy, so no this axle will stay a low pinion.
Only way to use a 14 B as a HP axle is to have the motor in the rear, no one make HP gears for a 14B yet. But no we are planning on flipping this axle since we don't want it drive backwards, lol.

So I guess I don't follow your question about "how are you going to make this a true hi pinion"

Axle is just about ready for welding, so I'm hoping to get it done this week.
