Wheel spacers needed?

I have a completely stock 99 WJ. I am going to buy some used BFG KO2's tomorrow, size 255/70 r16's which from what I've read, should fit okay.

I also found a set of hub centric wheel spacers, 1.5" wide; used for $50.

Should I buy the wheel spacers for that price in case I need them or do folks think the stock wheels and those tires will work without rubbing?

You should be fine. The spacers might actually require a little lift as they modify the radius.

If those tires rub, its likely to be on the outside of the fender well, and those spacers are likely to make it worse.

If the price on the spacers is very nice, I suggest you buy them.
On the basis you can flog them later without loosing much if any.

You will not need spacers to run those tires
