Dude! That looks awesome! I've been eyeballing that third brake light also. I've also got some LED tail lights in my ebay watch list.

Pulled the valve cover off to confirm that the 'clacking' isn't a lifter...which means it's more than likely a piston. Pfft.

I bought one ! After ten years of pretending to be a city boy I have jumped off the edge of sanity and back into the embrace of a Jeep. This is a bone stock 99 WJ with a 4.0 and will be my fifth jeep. Can't wait to get back out there.

I blew a piston skirt within my first year of owning, it was quite a process to do alone as a 16 year old

Gave Thumper a bath this morning and also swapped bulbs in the rear turn signal that has a mind of its own. Had a scare yesterday where I had an awful thud on my floorboards as I was driving. Nothing seems amiss and I gave a look and don't see anything wrong either. Didnt see anything in my rearview when it happened, but guessing the tire kicked a chunk of horse crap(I was in Amish country) or something up.

Dynomax Exhaust

Replaced my 15 year old splitting muffler with a Dynomax Power-Flow cat-back exhaust. Highly recommended! The tail pipe fits beautifully and the muffler sounds good, but not too loud.
I have the 4.7 with three cats and there is no drone at cruising speeds. It's pretty loud at 2,000-2,500 RPM, but it never stays at that RPM when cruising. If I had 4.11:1 gears it may be a problem. It sounds nice at 2,000. I kid of wish it roared a little louder at full throttle, but I wouldn't want any more noise full time.

Wow, sounds like it. I just helped a buddy build up a LS motor for a supercharged Mustang so I have help for this project. Then I turn around and help him build a deck. The fun never-ending cycle, lol.

On that note, today I spent some time on the phone with Titan Engines for an engine build. *rubs hands together excitedly*

Titan Engine "DA33 HP" reman long block - $1,800

Quick question: When mating a 4.0L engine to the automatic transmission, how many alignment pins are there...one or two? I need to buy some ASAP.

BOOM! I did it, ordered a remanufactured long block from Titan Engines. I had looked around at used motors but you never know what you'll get and just yesterday someone emailed a quote for $1200 for one. No way would I consider paying over a $1,000 when just a little more offers a lot more for longevity, warranty and performance.

I ordered their long block with performance mods that didn't require tuning, plus price jump is significant once you move into stroker crank territory. I paid $1,800 for a "DA33 HP" engine that comes balanced and will have a (Howards) stroker cam, aftermarket ported head, Melling oil pump and full gasket set. With the intake/exhaust mods already installed he said that should net about +15 HP. I'm not chasing high horsepower and just wanted an engine that breathed a little better to take advantage of the header, throttle body, injectors and else I've put money into that I wasn't getting much out of up until now. The motor arrives in a few days and I hope to have it in by next weekend.

$1,400 for their stock long block build, for anyone interested.

$1,800 - DA33 HP engine

$350 - core charge
$250 - shipping (no liftgate needed)
====
$2,400 TOTAL

Ordered Additionally:

spark plugs, serpentine belt, oil, oil filter, coolant, water pump and gasket, thermostat and gasket, harmonic balancer, fan clutch, upper/lower radiator hoses and clamps,

Motor mounts and cabin air filter recently installed.

The POC at Titan Engines was professional, knowledgeable and great to work with: John Konnick

Congrats! Keep us posted once you get it installed. How much would it cost to ship the core back?
