Thud when parked, not running.

I felt/heard a hard thud when I was parked getting cleaned up after work before going in a store.(drove about 3 miles from work to the store) Similar sound/feeling to hitting a bad pothole. My first thought was a co-worker had spotted me and was pranking me, but no one was anywhere near the Jeep.

Engine was shut off.

I looked underneath and did a walk around and saw nothing unusual and no unusual things happened on my way home either.

My only thought is that something in the suspension was bound up slightly and expanded due to heat. As it cooled, it popped loose.

Any ideas?

Check out springs. That's the only thing I can think of that has any kind of tension. Because if you've got other suspension components getting some binding, that's something you'll want to address ASAP. Perhaps the spring rubber bottom pads (the term is escaping me...isolators?) could have broken and been forced out, which could explain the suddenness of the pop, especially something you could feel.

Thinking springs too. Maybe you partially dropped a coil out of the isolator so it reseated off to the side a hair. Then while you were sitting there it just ... slid into place. Maybe. Wild guess.

Did your car move up or down when the noise happened?

Spring isolators all look find and are only a few years old. I'm starting to think it might have been something other then the Jeep making the noise.

I just felt a small bump, like someone closed a door hard.

Gremlins, or cosmic rays.
Forget about it until it happens again.
