Temp of properly cooling A/C?

If a thermometer is placed in a WJ vent which has properly working A/C, what should the temperature be for:

A) Recirculate dash vents
B) Dash vents (non-recirculating)

The reason I ask is I want to measure the temperature of mine and want to compare to a correct known reference temperature to mine is working at spec.

You're looking for 28-30* below ambient temps...any cooler than that and you run the risk of icing up the evaporator core.

EDIT:

To add to that, when measuring vent temps you always want to 'tax' the system, this means A/C on full blast, all doors open and on recirc. If you're in the 28-30* below ambient temp range out of the vents then your AC is good to go. It's also generally advised to hold the engine RPM slightly above idle, usually 1200 RPMS or so.

Some real good info from Jeeples. I just fully recharged my 04 4.7 AC system and have center vent temps around 43-44F which seems plenty cold enough. Real long post/thread below but the vent temps are going to vary some depending on ambient temps along with humidity (see below chart).

I was curious, so I stuck a few thermometers in my vents today while out. I'm in north GA, and the outside temp ranged between 89-93. The lowest temp I read from the center vent was 42.4. At 90-91 it averaged 43 at the vent. On the way home, it was 93 outside, and the center vent on fan speed #3 was reading 44.5-46. I'll take it!

I had my system evacuated and charged to spec last year, and replaced an A/C switch.
