Stock sound system upgrade?

Has anyone done a sound system upgrade and bypassed the stock amp by putting in a new Head Unit and Amp in? Also upgrading door speakers. I haven't been able to find anything to help me out...

"Edit" eliminate the stock amp if possible....

If your referring to my build, I did replace the stock amp with an Alpine PDX-F4.
With all the reading I have done, and a little experience, most of the stock stuff doesn't play well with after market. So I decided to start from scratch. I just wish Head units didn't look so Busy and flashy.

When I replaced my stock head unit, I left everything else the way it was and it sounds great. I think the amp only becomes a a possible issue when you start replacing speakers. Even that, I think I remember reading as long as you pay attention to the speaker impedance values that it can still work fine.

Its also going to depend on how loud you want to get. The stock system isn't super loud. Nothing replaces good clean power. And thats something the stock system doesn't have much of. Its just about what you want your wanting to accomplish with your upgrade.

OP, here's the Infinity amp wiring diagram so you can wire up an aftermarket amp in its place.

There is also a amp bypass harness from metra, if you don't want to splice into the harness.

Yall are awesome! I guess i had to ask the right questions for yall to.understand what i was talkin about but im glad it got straightened out! I do plan out completely removing the stock amp, i plannon going with a decent Kenwood HU, then all Kenwood door speakers and then for the amp just a 400w Kenwood amp.

OH! One other advice I have. Don't buy an amp wiring kit. Just get a spool of power wire from XS power or sky high car audio. Then buy a fuse block and RCAs separately. If you don't ever plan to do a sub amp. You might could get away with 8awg.
