Short Arm 4 Link Rear

I'm going to be moving up to 6.5" soon and I realize my rear suspension isn't going to cut it for long at that height (a-arm spacer and rusty's fixed control arms). After looking at the setup the Rock Krawler setup that 85IrocZ-28 just removed from the rear of his WJ I've been thinking about the idea of building something similar. Here is a picture of his.

For the upper portion of the 4 link I was think of using 7/8" ruff stuff heims on all 4 corners of the uppers , 1.75x.25 DOM tubing and a ruff stuff horizontal 4 link axle bracket pictured in the link below.

The benefits of this for me would obviously be adjustability, cost, strength and when I would be ready for a rear long arm setup it would make the transition much easier.

The major concern I have is mounting the heim to the factory a-arm frame side mount. Does anybody know what size bolt the factory arm takes? With ruff stuff misalignment spacers I am limited to 9/16, 5/8, and 3/4 inch bore sizes. I wouldn't mind slightly drilling out the factory mount, but also don't want to take away from its integrity.

Let me know what you think of the idea and any drawbacks you see with this setup. I am by no means an expert and don't mind criticism.

BTW I already have a truss on my axle to mount the bracket

Unless I'm missing something, what do you plan to do for height off the pumpkin? Without raising the mounting points, that a-arm will be on a pretty good downward angle, decreasing droop. The factory "frame" end mounting points limit travel of those joints so as it is.

At 6.5" lift, I would recommend you ditch a modified a-arm set-up and go 4 link.

Edit: didn't see your last sentence re: mounting bracket to truss.

IIRC the rear uppers mounted using 1/2" bolts. I used some 2.0" ballistic joints when I built my own A-Arm but had to weld some custom pacers on the joint to fill up the .63" left in the mounting brackets. I used some 1/2" stainless steel spacers from Barnes4wd.com. I think you could use the RS 5/8" heims with their 5/8's to 1/2" high misalignment spacer and have the correct mounting width and the correct bolt size.

I want to go four link, but cost is a factor for me. I see this as an adjustable step up from the factory rear suspension and a transition to a 4 link long arm kit all for a pretty decent price.

I knew that would be the first thing mentioned, hence the disclaimer at the bottom.

Thanks for the info man. That is exactly what I was looking for.
