Shimmy (death wobble) help needed...asap pls..

I need some help…can’t figure out death wobble…suggestions?

2004 Wj with stock and original steering parts except for damper
Experienced a slight steering wheel shimmy (death wobble) in the fall and with 120K on the original damper, replaced it with Monroe SC2928 Magnum Steering Damper. Things seemed ok for a month or two, the occasionally would feel the wobble, around 55 MPH but only on rare occasion.

Over the last 3 months has gotten noticeably worse..steering wheel wobble can show up at around 45 MPH and be quite pronounced, but again, only on occasion but getting more frequent.

Have jeep on lift and from what I can see, and garage mechanic can see, there is not play in either the tie rod or drag link ends. No ball joint wobble what so ever.

The tie rod does tend to rotate slightly when moving steering from lock to lock.

We are scratching our heads, just don’t want to throw parts at it but nothing obvious.

Is there a way to really diagnose this issue?
Much appreciated
J

Check the track bar. Also, the steering box. Any play there?

How to check the track bar?
It only has busings right? are they replacable or the entire track bar has to be replaced?

Have some turn the steering wheel while watching the track bar. It's the bar with the band above the axel. Check for side to side movement in the bar and bushings. You can either replace the bar and or bushings. I have a few videos in another post. Pre and post trackbar replacement video checking for play.

I’m going to assume you’ve been through this thread? Lots of info in there. One cure in there too! I’m dealing with DW currently. And right now I’m thinking that one of the first things I should have done is get the tires/wheels road force balanced.

Installing a monotube steering stabilizer cured it for me.
