Reasonable is relative. it all depends on the original equipment and type of transmission, in addition to what type of ignition safety lockouts exist. (just a Heads Up)

I installed a kit on my 2004 WJ a few months ago. The kit came with everything needed detailed instructions, key bypass module etc.
I purchased the complete kit from motorcityremotes for around $155. The install took a few hours and was pretty straight forward.

I'm thinking of adding one as well. Just saw best buy has a viper one for $199 pre black friday, but also saw the Avital 4105L that sales for way less and comes with two controllers, more buttons, and great reviews but it aint not viper.

If you search this forum you will find a few detailed threads for remote starter (RS) recommendations and installations.

One in particular that I followed I, for my 2004 wj is Chris Hagers:
https://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f310...te-up-2886137/
The components will cost less than $100. Allow a good afternoon for installation.

This RS is a basic one way, ~ 800 feet communication distance set up.
This satisfied my requirements.

I suggest you become familiar with that different characteristics of RS systems so you can make a decision that meets your needs.

One piece of advice, IMO, Is to do an installation following the instructions written by someone who has done an install. I’d buy the same exact parts they used. I’d also try to find one that did it on your exact vehicle, or one *very* similar. I would take this approach, even if some of the functionality that you want is different than what their setup provides. (if you can live with it)

The reason I say this is that documentation provided by some remote start components is less than complete and one needs to have some association with the product supplier to get the missing information. YMMV. Also, since most of the parts are ‘universal’, the product supplier has vehicle specific application information that may be hard to come by. OTOH, if you call and ask they often will supply it…or you might find it on the web.

I had a Viper from Best Buy installed in both my WJ's, 2001 and a 2002, for less then 150.00 total. That's parts and labor. The range is incredible, Viper is the way to go.

Not inexpensive, but....
My Compustar starts from over 1000 feet, and with the app or web page I can start my vehicle from anywhere. Ty are spendy though and something you would want to take with you when you sell the vehicle.

Only one kid in history had ever attempted what Benny was about to, and he got eaten.

I installed this model last year. Works great. You’ll need a key bypass module and it will need programming by the seller. I bought the starter and key bypass from the same seller on eBay and it was programmed when it arrived. Try to pick a warm day and solder all connections. Easy diy project.

What fo you mean by, "it will need programming by the seller"? Prior shipping seller need to program it to my vehicle or when it arrives I need to contact a locksmith or alarm shop to program it to my wj?

To the people that have done this to their WJ, Do you also add Security+Remote Start, or just remote start?

The Compustar website claims they don't make one for a WJ. What model did you use?
