Rear view camera location

Iím thinking of installing a rear view camera now that I have a stereo that supports one. Deciding between these two locations. Can anyone offer some first hand experience? Will use a Natika camera.

I mounted mine above the license plate. Took the panel off which houses to the license plate lamps to help route the cables into the rear hatch. Then routed the cables around the rear window, through to the boot to the body, and then to the rear passenger's side where the CD changer used to be. Reason I went to the passenger's side is that I had removed the CD changer but still had the wiring. I reused the CD changer wires so that way I didn't have to run wires all the way from the back to the head unit.

x2 for above the license plate, although I mounted mine directly in the center. I have an excellent view backing up and can get ultra close to cars behind me for parallel parking like a boss.

I also used a Natika:

You say you didnít have to run wires from the back to the head unit. What about your video feed?
The license plate lamp housing is my first choice. The inside was a second choice after looking for mounting points. Inside appeals to me as itís out of the elements but Iím not too sure what the effect of window tint ( factory) will have on image quality.

I am currently working on this very thing right now - does anyone know which wire for the tail-light harness will allow me to splice into the backup lights for the camera?

I heard it was the purple one?

Thanks!

I would like to know if the reverse lights wire is in the passenger side kick panel. If so, what color is it. I know what color it isnít. White/tan, thatís the brake light wire Keith, you idiot! Wiring my camera up today and I got at tad crossed up. Camera works fine. When I apply the brakes! I love getting old.

I corrected my mistake from yesterday. The violet/black wire is accessible in the passenger kick panel wiring harness. All good now. There are two violet wires in there the one you want has a black tracer.
Followed this video for the wiring connections. Works fine.

All finished. Pulling the wire harness through the hatch boot was a bit nerve wracking. All in all a project worth pursuing if your head unit supports a camera.

Awesome. I very much want to do this, it's always been a pain to see out the rear especially at night. And it would make hooking up the trailer so much easier!

I installed mine with a switch on the dash. When I need it I turn it on. It's also used with a video recorder so if anyone is screwing around I have evidence.
