Just recently purchased a 2001 GC Laredo. Trying to figure out the little quirks with it. Like today my check engine light came on and everything checks out fine. Hate to rush off to the shop if it’s something I can handle. Guessing I’ll need to purchase a code reader. Is there a way to reset check engine light with out the code reader ?
You can pull codes with no reader. It is called the "key dance". Turn the ignition on 3 times in a row, but do not actually start the engine. Codes will appear followed by "done" on the 4th ignition activation.
Write them down, tell us what they are.
Next, give us info such as engine, mileage and any other info on the state of this WJ. Any modifications and service history if any exists.
If the 'key dance' doesn't work for you, just drive down to your local Advanced Auto (or similar) Parts store....they'll generally/usually/always scan your car for you at no cost.
