Keyless Remote Entry

Hello, I purchased a WJ used recently and it didn't come with the remote when I bought it. I haven't had a chance to stop at a dealer to have them check/ quote out getting ones programmed. But I was wondering if they came without that as an option and if there is a way for me to check before doing that. Thanks!

I'm sure someone will chime in soon to confirm, but I think most WJ's came with keyless entry.

Tip: you don't have to pay an arm and leg at the dealership for new remotes and programming. I ordered a few replacements from Amazon, and a member here will send you a programmer for around $15. I did that a few months ago, and it worked like a charm.

Yep, keyless entry was standard equipment on all WJs.

You can get a programmer with keyless remote on Amazon for $66 right now - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The price may fluctuate, I bought this late last year for $56.

If anyone just needs to use the programmer, PM me and I'll send it to you for $15 so you can use it and send it back.

Thanks guys! I will look into this option. Also has anyone tried out those dorman fob and programmers, I know they usually run like 80ish bucks.

I did try the Dorman fob and programmer. The Dorman fob worked great for a couple months, then stopped unlocking the doors. I wound up taking the passenger door module and fob from my 2000 WJ and installed the PDM into my 2002 WJ. It's still working great today.

I think I'm going to hop in line for this programmer @EisBlade . I found a fob laying around from my old 1999 WJ that I would like to reprogram to work with my 2002. Sounds like your programmer would do the job.

I just received it back so it's ready to ship immediately. Just send a PM when ready. Might need new batteries if unsure when they were last replaced. Batteries required: two cr2016

I found these for $3 on Amazon w/ free shipping.

FYI - If two 2016 batteries are stacked when installed, a single 2032 will work instead. Apparently, two 2016s have a total capacity of about 180mAh whereas one 2032 has about 240mAh.

Rage! Rage against the dying of the Jeep.

Bought one over a year ago. Still working well. The only issue I had was that I had to climb in and shut the door before the programmer would work. But that did the trick.
