Wj how long can you safely drive with a purged AC system?

im waiting at least another week for my manifold gauges and vacuum pump so right now its all air in there....can i safely drive it at all? with the AC off of course.....should i grab a bypass belt? im just worried about damaging compressor

You should be just fine so long as you don't turn on the ac or defroster.

Yeah, the compressor won't do anything. Unplug the clutch connection or remove the AC relay if you're that worried, but the pressure switch shouldn't let the clutch engage anyway.

If you know there are no leaks, you should disconnect the clutch connection, and put some nitrogen or CO2 in the system. The moisture that's in the air could possibly cause issues before you're able to get the vacuum pump on it.

I had the AC system in my Ford Escape empty for nearly a month. I then did a regular vacuum and refill (didn't replace the O-rings or accumulator, because I'm in the UK and RHD accumulators simply don't exist for the Escape any more, it wasn't a popular vehicle over here and only sold between 2001-03) and almost 3 years later it's still working fine.

I drove for like 2 years with a purged AC system.. Just make sure your compressor doesn't come on.
