Hot driveshaft!?!?!

My 2000 WJ 4.7 limited quadradrive front driveshaft cv style bearings finally went out at 223,000 so I bought a rebuild kit and packed those new ones full and got it all back together for a test drive this morning and when I got back the cv joint on the transfer case side was too hot to touch? Is this normal to break in or something? Do the little 8mm bolts have to be a specific torque? I wouldnt think snugging those up by hand could put a weird pressure on the bearings since they just hold the little caps on and thread into the t-case. The holes for the bolts go through the outer bearing race and dont actually put pressure on the inner bearings in any way so I'm just confused? The test drive was nice though it was nice and quiet again.........for now?

I think you are fine. Remember, you have exhaust running right next to the driveline, and with the wind blowing everything around under there while your going down the road, Things can get a little toasty under there. Hot to your bare hand, is way different than hot enough to have a joint meltdown.

If everything looks good, smells good, sounds good, and feels good(vibration wise), it IS good. Happy Jeeping!
