Horn not working, Possible BCM?

Looking for advice before I start swapping out random parts trying to fix the problem.

My horn is not working with either the horn switch on the steering wheel or the key fob lock/unlock notification. I have run the Service Manual decision tree and checked every part of the horn system, i.e. horn switch thru clockspring, horn relay, horn. All parts test good, but there is no continuity between the back side of the clockspring to the input of the horn relay switch in the power distribution center (PDC). Looking at a wiring diagram, that is where the input from the BCM links in to activate the security lock/unlock notification.

Could it be as simple as one connection on the BCM has gone bad? No other gauge or instrumentation errors that would point to the BCM, but every part of the horn system works individually.

Also, if I get a BCM via eBay or junkyard, I assume it will need to be programmed? Thanks

BCM's will scan and show codes in the module or specific related wiring circuits. You won't need programming to pair a BCM on the WJ series if it requires replacement source it from the same year and model from a parts yard.

When mine stopped working in my '04 RM WJ, it was the fuse in the Power Distribution Center. I'd check that and/or replace it.

Waterluvr, my concern is that I do not have a DRBIII scanner, and the Jeep dealership did not mention any codes from the BCM when they did their diagnostic scan and they said the BCM was "probably" the culprit. Have you seen single item failures (just the horn is not working) like this from a BCM failure? Thanks.

The DRB from Miller tools is antiquated at this point, the modules were designed with more diagnostic functionality built into it than the DRB was able to access and current tool makers have taken advantage of those shortcomings offering more functionality.

Any reputable shop these days will have a lead tech using a quality scanner like an Autel Elite or Snap On Versus, runs circles around those old diagnostic tools and unlocks all the available info and bi-directional abilities.

I use the Autel as it has a leg up on anything currently available, you can cycle the horn relay from the bcm with a push of a icon on the touch screen and have a meter on the demand side to see if the module is working on that circuit.

Can the Autel change be used to program key fobs or change customer preferences?

The Elite or Pro Maxisys can with current software packages, none of the lower line tools can.

Dorman offers a Chrysler / Jeep FOB programmer for less than a hundred bucks with a new remote if your in need of one they work great.

Well, it wasn't the BCM. Swapped it out and the horn still doesn't work with either the key fob or the horn switch. Anybody got any ideas?

Check the fuse in the PDC. Before doing anything else. That's the black box by your battery.
