HO vs non HO resonator and filter box

I know there is a significant difference in the intake manifolds but other than having circular tubing, does the HOs resonator and filter box offer any additional gains?

The resonator box as you know is for sound deadening. No performance advantages. I can't comment on ID differences as I've only had one and it my '02 Overland.

'02 Overland ~217k miles. OEM Engine/ Tranny. 2.5" Springs, All new control arms and Addco Sways.

I run the HO resonator and filter boxes on both my non-HO 4.7s'.

The filter has deeper pleats vs. the standard 4.7 and the shape of the upper and lower boxes are smoothed out as well, presumably to provide better airflow.

The two items that are most appealing to me:

-The filter box pulls are from the dead space behind the front fender vs. running the intake between the radiator and headlight.

-The round resonator tube allows you to easily replace the resonator box with 3" tubing and a coupler, similar to the AirRaid Jr. intake kit that retains the factory filter and box.

I have a bunch of pictures in my build thread comparing the two setups.

Out of interest, would this give you the sound of a CAI?

I'm not sure, I still have the stock HO resonator box on both my 4.7's. I did notice a change in intake sound, a little throatier, when swapping in the HO setup.

I imagine the lack of resonator would amplify that.

Yes. It is noticeably noisier without the resonator box.

Thanks! Would you say it's just noisier or does it actually sound better? I would like to get a subtle increase in intake noise but don't want to get rid of the stock filter box or replace with a CAI right now.
