So you want to swap a non HO into a HO?

Based on this I'm going to say not because the PCM was programmed differently along with a multitude of other things.

Also, the tone ring on the crankshaft for the crank position sensor is different in 03-04. So 99-02 engines wont swap into 03-04 without major bottom end changes.

Rotating assembly on the HO is wildly stronger than the standard 4.7 since the HO uses forged components. If your HO ate it and you have a standard engine laying around or that you can pull for cheap and just want to slap it in to get it running again, yeah it'll work and run fine. You'll throw a code for knock sensors since the standard 4.7 doesn't use them. If you have a vin which begins with J rather than N you shouldn't have to mess around with the tone wheels and reluctor ring either.

My 02 4.7 has the nubs 4 knock sensors I'm just going to install them right where they came from the 04 ho engine. no tone ring differences between the two 3 pin/ connections pcm's only on the 4 pin late 04/5 & on..even on vin j vs n...research research and more research= the right / correct answers. & eye strain..thank you for your insight into the delima and happy trails..

Are you sure you're not looking at the lift dowel holes? Can you post a pic? Im curious how your non-HO has knock sensor holes

Now the fun begins.. I still have to believe that it will R in better with a more advanced pcm regardless of the compression differences between the two . it will breath better the ho's y pipe & exhost is less restrictive & I dumped/ removed the muffler as well .

Oh you have improved upon the standard HO no doubt. It wont be quite as good as the original HO, but maybe you wont even notice....

And driving down the street is better than sitting on blocks in your driveway, no matter what V8 you have.
