Blue Hen

Hi guys and gals. I recently had my keys stolen along with the fob. I installed a new immobilizer module along with a matching PCM and transponder key. Everything works except the oil pressure gauge. The donor car was a 2002. Mine is a 2004. Does that matter? Thanks.

Try a new Oil Pressure Sending Unit in your 2004 engine. It's cheap and easy to change if you're handy. Don't overtighten it! I got one from AdvanceAuto, a BWD sensor, which is OEM recommended, and has performed as expected ever since.

Herein lies another question to be pondered, discussed, and argued by WJ owners. My 2002 WJ 4.0L i6s' oil pressure gauge fluctuates CONSTANTLY when I'm driving it.

It is of popular opinion that the '02 models didn't come with a real gauge, but I think that mine did. My 2004 WJ, same powertrain, NEVER moves after start-up....it's more like a "dummy-gauge"....so if there's some pressure, the '04 reads that there's the same pressure as having a little pressure,

So, if you have an '04, having a little means the same as having a lot. I love my '02 because it constantly tells me how much I actually have

i think gauges read actual pressure, not on/off but variable.
i have three 4.0 and one 4.7. they all read actual, slight change from idle to running on road, 40 to 50...but solid at given speed.

'02 the change to the 'dummy' gauge was made, however depending on production date there are some '02's out there with the older style gauge. It's a single wire unit that simply displays whether or not the sensor is detecting oil pressure.

'99-'01 utilized a 2 wire sensor that will provide actual pressure readings. You'll note that this change coincides with the changes made to the gauge clusters...older style sending units will have gauge clusters with numbers on them, whereas the newer style sending units simply have an 'H' or an 'L' displayed.

If the gauge is fluctuating and reads low with a cold engine, that's normally a sign the sending unit needs to be changed. They'll do that or they will start leaking, or both. Changing it is super easy.

never saw an "h" , "l" but my 04,4.7 has one wire sender with regular real gage.

So would a 2002 pcm not be compatible with an 04 sending unit if it was a different style oil sending unit? It was showing pressure before I swapped out the pcm. Or could it just be a coincidence?
