4.7 Dropped Valve Seat - YEAR POLL

We have a poll running regarding dropped valve seats in 4.7s: 4.7 Dropped Valve Seat Poll In this poll, you can vote whether or not you've experienced a dropped valve seat.

Within this thread, an interesting question was brought up:

I'm curious now too.

If your 4.7 has dropped a valve seat, vote the year. If you have not personally experienced a dropped valve seat, please do not vote. I enabled multiple votes for those who've experienced this more than once. Let's keep the arguments to a minimum.

I know the hemi's they changed the specs for how tight the seats are pressed into the heads after a certain year but i dont recall seeing that about the 4.7.

Since this is a brand new thread with no votes, what's the consensus? Add more years or keep it WJ specific? I don't mind either way but would like to make changes before the poll takes off. Otherwise, the numbers will be skewed.

Keep it to WJs Chris. The other guys can run their own polls in the other forums.

I'm leaning towards WJ specific years as well. If there's mutiny, we can always create a new thread in a more appropriate area.

It don't need to be a perfect survey for me. I just want to see the grouping.

Just like all these PCM failures. That could be a survey. Seems like a lot of 99 and 00's.

99 and 2000 had a different brand of PCM from what I am told they changed it in 01 to some other vendor.

You could probably vote if you drained all your coolant and raced another WK SRT8

Chris - should these polls be stickied? Otherwise they may fall by the wayside and miss voters.

I would love to see this a sticky not sure how scientific it is but maybe a pattern could be picked up with the years.

I will sticky it for a little while. We try to avoid too many stickies in order to reduce clutter but I don't see why this can't be at the top for a few weeks.

The ones that will be missed are the ones that went to the scrap yard after engine failure without diagnosis. They may have thought it was another fault but it was too old and cost to much to repair. I know one that went to the breakers yard with about 200,000 on the clock. He put the rough running and low compression on number 5 down to a head gasket.... but as the Jeep was a mixture of mud and rust !!! it was not worth looking into......I think it was the dropped valve seat issue especially as three in our relatively small group have had seat drop in the last couple of years.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got yourself an electrical problem!

We should make another pole to get the estimated total number of active owners with both engine sizes. Of the three car forums I am a part of this one is by far the largest and most active. Polls are fun.

Should we make a poll to see if members want to make a poll about active member's engines? Haha!

One of the most amazing things I've ever seen is people hosting meetings for the sole purpose of planning meetings. Always baffles me.

All kidding aside, feel free to make whatever poll you see fit. Worst case scenario, it will just sink it's way to the bottom. Best case, we have a sweet set of stats.
