β€˜04 Grand Cherokee idle air control valve

I have an β€˜04 grand Cherokee overland that I inherited from my best friend who passed in April. I am having problems with a very low idle when I start it and am unable to keep it running if I take my foot off the gas upon staring. It is not throwing a check engine light, but all my research leads to an IAC valve. I do not wish to dump money into a new part to just see, as I don’t have a ton, but was curious if anyone knew if this could be the problem even if the check engine light is on?

being a 04 WJ I am guessing a 4.0L -

1) start by checking and posting codes. Yes do the check even if light is off.
2) remove and clean IAC - there are tutorial's on youtube.

get back after ck codes and cleaning.

When I see the price of OEM I think aftermarket.
When I see the quality of aftermarket I think OEM.

My 4.7 does this. I have replaced the crank angle sensor and the camshaft position sensor. I've tried to clean the IAC valve and the throttle body, but none of that has helped. My next step is to replace IAC with a new one. If that doesn't work I guess I'll start digging into the engine grounds, I think that could potentially cause similar issues.

Mines been doing it almost two years now. At first it was annoying, then I got used to it, now I just want to drive my Jeep off a cliff... But, I know it's my fault for not fixing it sooner. Just don't really have the $ to take it to a shop and don't have the time to mess with it myself.
