02 WJ Build (Pandemic)

Bought my WJ a month ago at the beginning of February 2021. It is a 2002 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 with 242 tcase. I plan on lifting it 6.5 inches with 33 inches tires. I have already order most of the parts and have began working on it. The WJ will be mostly a trail rig which will help keep my WK from getting beat up on too much.

The front spring perches are rusted out so I decided to go ahead and add a truss to it while I had the front end out to fix the perches. I didn't fill confident enough to weld it on so I tacked everything on and then took it to my local welding shop to finish it up.

Will be keeping the dana 35 with 3.73 gear ratio and adding a truss to it as well. I also have a aussie locker for the dana 35 and Torq locker for the dana 30. Would like to eventually get a ford 9 inch and regear but I have already gone way over budget.

Well, the gearing should still be OK for 33's, just be nice to the axle shafts in the D35, as they are known to break. If it ever happens to ya, I believe they sell hardened shafts for it, but most people just upgrade the whole assembly...

I debated on swapping to the 44a but ended up deciding to stick with the 35. I will mostly likely end up getting hardened shafts eventually and keep a pair of stock shafts in the jeep just in case. Hopefully the truss and not going bigger than 33s will help out with keeping it in one piece.

I installed the rear half of the lift today along with Firestone Mt2 tires. Still have to do final adjustments and do an alignment. Also need to install SYE and order front and rear driveshafts.

Here is a picture of my fuel tank tuck which I tucked 6 inches and the winch mount I built. I did these shortly after I bought the jeep. I still need to trim the 2x3s on the winch mount and cap the ends.

Man, its lookin awesome. Those IRO control arms really open up the place, looks like there is twice the room under the Jeep now. Everything is easy to get to. I am still debating on the tank tuck myself. I like the added room for the spare, or tools, or junk...But i hate the way the tank looks, hanging down....

Yeah its coming along nice. I'm glad to have it back on the ground, been sitting in the same spot for over 3 weeks. Still have a few thing to finish up before I can take it on a real drive. I tried to leave a little storage above the tank but lifting it 6 inches and then mounting the canister above the tank took any storage options out of the picture.

So, just curious, Did the IRO kit come with the second steering stabilizer for the drag link? Or did you add that yourself?

The IRO lift kit doesn't come with second steering stabilizer. You have to purchase it separately from them. They sell a heavy duty stabilizer to replace the stock one and a dual stabilizer kit to either add a second one or relocate the lower one up higher.

If you want to add a second one you would buy the dual stabilizer kit. It will come with a heavy duty stabilizer and the hardware to connect it form drag link to track bar frame bolt For the IRO track bar and most other track bars. If you have a JKS track bar make sure to click the JKS box when purchasing and it will come with hardware to connect it to the track bar itself and to drag link.
