WK2 hemi exhaust leak

Well ladies and gentz. The day has come where the extended warranty doesn't cover a repair and it comes in the form of an exhaust leak. The kicker for me is the check engine light is not coming on, but my wife can smell fumes in the cabin. Any helpful tips on what it might be or where it could be coming from?

Look under the vehicle after you start it and look for steam, condensation or water dripping.

Easier when it's cold out.

How old is the WK2, mileage? A few of these suffer from a loose/broken exhaust manifold bolt. Usually there is a exhaust tick when cold, in fact you should be hearing the leak if you can smell fumes. There has been a few threads discussing fumes in the cabin of unknown origin. Replacing the cabin air filter with one of those coated with charcoal sometimes solves that annoyance.

It has around 88k on it currently and is a 2013. I had my mechanic look at it and said he could file it under the warranty as exhaust manifold replacement. He also thinks it could be the screw on the manifold, he is also worried about the amount of condensation in the exhaust as well so he is going to try and diagnose that as well (falls under warranty as well). I saw the replacing the air filter thread, but that worries me having a 4 month old and wife riding in the vehicle. Other than this issue my wife loves the car and won't let me sell it so repair here we come lol.

Well the Jeep is at the mechanic and he said it is not an exhaust fumes but gasoline fumes coming from somewhere and he does not know where it could be coming from. You can only smell the fumes inside the car while its on and there are no leaks coming from the car. Any ideas?

MY 2013 5.7 had a broken bolt which then warped the manifold, but it was all replaced under warranty. I heard an exhaust tick which sounded like a lifter tick, that pretty much went away after it was warm.

That's what I find weird is that it doesn't really smell like exhaust, more of an unburnt fuel smell. I wonder if that broken bolt can cause that problem still.

Question

Evap line leaking near the outside air vent under the hood?

Sniff around the passenger side. Fuel line leak?

If the mechanic can't find it, who can?

I will follow up with him today and see if there is an evap leak and if he can smell fuel under the hood. I spoke with my local jeep dealer and they told me any warranty work they are booked out until the 25th... Of next month. Shows what they think about warranty work even though they get paid for it.

Perhaps also look for an oil or fluid leak somewhere thats dropping on a hot surface.

So the techs at Jeep have said that there could be 3 issues: it is either the vents at the rear of the jeep are broken and that is causing the smell, there is an evap line somewhere that is either broken or clogged or there is a fuel line leak somewhere (no visible leaks anywhere on the vehicle). That being said scenario 1 180 dollars in parts with 5 hours of labor, scenario 2 estimated 3 hours of diagnostics and parts plus computer flash cost and scenario 3 estimated 3 hours of diagnostics and parts plus computer flash cost on this one as well. So all in all they are wanting to charge me around $1000 in repairs and the big kicker is since its evap my warranty does not cover it, but if its fuel related it would be covered up to 500 dollars with my 100 dollar deposit. I think I am going to try and get another estimate from another dealership.

Okay, super stupid question here, but do you have the A/C set to front window defogger? I had a similar problem for a couple of weeks and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what was going on - you got it - turns out it was brcause I had the front defogger turned on...
