Whatís Your Mileage

Iíve always been interested in vehicles that can roll big mileage. From Irv Gordon to Million Mile Joe to the Cummins High Mileage Club, people that drive umpteen miles in their cars have always fascinated me. I have a 2012 Accord with 132,000 miles, and weíre just getting started. So my question is, whatís your Grand Cherokee mileage?*

My wifeís 2014 GC Limited has 36,200 - it is still a baby. Iíd be interested to know what the record is for a WK2!

*Mods, I did search the forums before posting this and didnít see a duplicate thread. If I missed it, feel free to merge it into a pre-existing post.

Neighbor has close to 250,000 miles on his 2011 V8, barely broken in. Not many options, lots of cross country cruising with his dogs. He’s been through a few brake pads, wipers, bulbs, and tires. Does maintenance by the owners manual when he gets a chance. Has an unused lifetime warranty. Built in early 2010, so its suppose to be the most troublesome model, but not for him. Not even a water pump.

Nice to see that kind of mileage on an 11'. My 11' hemi has 145k on it and has been great. A couple water pumps and nothing major hoping to keep it for a few more years and closer to 200k.
Wife's 16' diesel only has 23k on it so long way to go with that one.

My 96 ZJ had 232k on it when I sold it, when I sold it I let the buyer know that it would definitely need a transfer case overhaul or replacement as the viscous coupler in the quadra-drive t-case was shot and it would kick out of low range when under load, he's still driving it 8 years later after a t-case replacement. That had the 4L i6 engine in it and it was the limited edition no heated seats, or sunroof, but every other option except limited slip rear differential. Last I saw the current owner he was at close to 500k on it with nothing more than regular maintenance and that transfer case replacement. I had that thing offroad pretty hard in stock form, and it never let me down.

My current 98 ZJ has 158k on it, 4L I6, selec-trac 4WD, limited slip rear differential, heated seats, no sunroof, but leather interior which from what I can gather is this is actually a Laredo SE with all the added features that a standard Laredo doesn't but its not the limited edition either. I bought it about 2 years ago with 150k on it and the reason I bought it was the huge history of service it had on it. It was dealer maintained and the original owner was a cleaning supply company in town and they took excellent care of it. Yes, it was priced a little higher, but its also in excellent condition to the other dozen ZJ's I had looked at.

I spent over a year searching and driving around looking for another ZJ as I had greatly been missing my Jeep. When I found the one I currently have, it was a holiday weekend, it was at a dealership which was closed, and I had to work so I had to wait not only till after Thanksgiving weekend, I had to work the next 2 days after so it was almost a week that passed, I figured it would be gone, but I also thought well if it were meant to come home with me it would still be there when I was off work. A week later it was still listed on the dealer's website, very surprising considering its condition and having selec-trac and relatively low mileage. I called the dealer and explained to them it would be a pain trying to get over and see it and drive it back home not having another person to drop me off and pick me up. The dealer sent one of their salesmen 30 miles to pick me up...extremely nice of them. Looked it over, asked if they'd be willing to replace the seriously cracked windshield which they agreed to, signed the dotted line and drove home...Its been almost 2 years, coming up sooner than it seems, and haven't had any trouble other than regular services and I'll be replacing the tires on it before winter, the tires on it are new but really seemed like they are not very winter ready at all they're Bridgestone Dueler H/T's. They're going to be swapped over to my 1988 Ford Bronco 2 and the Jeep will get new winter approved tires LOL.

Lower mileage isn't always better, but neither is high mileage....it all boils down to how well it was really maintained, and without documentation I wouldn't pay much. I love the ZJ's and XJ's but even at that without proper maintenance documentation I wouldn't pay too much for one.

Absolutely agree. I enjoy seeing a vehicle that has been carefully maintained and has reached big mileage for their owner. And as you bring up, just because a vehicle has low mileage does not mean itís worth purchasing - how it was maintained is just as critical as its mileage.

I've seen vehicles less than a year old with less than 10k on them in far worse condition than my 20-30 year old vehicles. Maintenance is a huge factor over the number of miles.

I've had 2 brand new vehicles in the past and the only thing I got out of it was the shaft in resell value...won't make that mistake a 3rd time. I'd rather buy used and skip the immediate 50% depreciation after driving it off the lot.

If we get enough responses, Iíll create (and maintain) a list of the highest mileage WK2s on this forum... is that enough of a trophy?

2002 Grand Cherokee v8 Quadra drive

160,000 miles with oil changes every 3000 or 3 months. I asked my mechanic if I should replace/rebuild engine before I tour around states in it towing a 17 ft Jayco travel trailer, he said absolutely not, nothing wrong with these engines and heís been taking care of it for the 8+ years Iíve owned it so knows all the history on it.

The responses are really great! Once we get around 20 or so, Iíll start making a list.

Mods, do we want to consider moving this thread to the general GC discussion? I had originally intended it for WK2 owners, but it seems like owners of other models are chiming in (which is cool), so maybe the WK2 forum isnít the best spot anymore?

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 212,000 on 5.7 L V8. Engine and drivetrain are in great condition except for a few oil drips on auto transmission pan. Still running on original water pump. I finally had to recharge the A/C a few years back. Both A/C and heater need work, but engine and drivetrain are great.
