Thoughts on ridiculous service estimate?

Hi. Long time Jeep owner. Been encountering some random issues with my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee lately with sensors misbehaving, check engine light, and some other issues. So, made the silly decision that a nearby dealer might be the best place to do an overall check and fix “all the problems” at once. First, dealer wants $1200 for the assessment they did. Second, dealer quoted... wait for it... $10,300 to fix “all the things”. 🤣 I know, right? They also kindly offered $2000 for it as a trade in. 🤣🤣🤣

OK. Obviously, this is completely ludicrous. I’d never pay that much for these repairs. I’m reaching out to some other mechanics for estimates on some of the more critical work, and may very well end up just purchasing a new car. But, figured I’d poll the forum for thoughts on what seem like reasonable prices for the following repairs, as the dealer described them to me...

Most important fix:

* Replace lifters on one side and cam shaft

Other potentially important fixes:

* Replace engine oil cooler
* Replace transmission oil cooler and service transmission

Non-critical fixes:

* Replace front collision warning camera
* Replace one side blind sensor

Thanks for your collective thoughts.

Yep, it's scary out there.

My local wanted $1600 to change the leaking rack and pinion. I haven't been losing power steering fluid either. 4 connections at the rack.

Just watched a story about how dollar general stores are taking over. My thought's were that it costs so much to get your Jeep fixed you have to shop at dollar general.

I'd think harder about trading it.

How many miles?....if the miles are high and you bought it newish then the best way out of this may be another one....but if the sensor issue has just appeared then there may be a common problem...a dealer probably isn’t the answer but a reputable shop may be.

The question is "How Many Miles do you have on the Jeep what engine is in it", and a second question is "Did you buy it when it was new?"

$1200 in diagnosing? Did you authorize them to spend that much time on trying to figure out what was wrong with the car? At my shop we stop at 2hrs and call the customer to see if they want to go any further.
