SERV 4WD Light

I got the SERV 4WD light warning yesterday. I disconnected the control module to check connections. They were good. I disconnected the battery for 20 minutes. I used AlphaOBD to get the error code C2221 - Failure warning lamp 'ON' : Not requested. How does a warning lamp go on without a request?

Could it be a service feature reminder and not an actual issue ?

C2221 is a ELSD error, the ApphaOBD lookup data base may be in error, or thats what happens when a CAN message get garbled or a faulty module.

Description:
When the Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM) detects an incorrect Controller Area Network (CAN) message from the Electronic Limited Slip Differential (ELSD) Module.

Cause:
ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL (ELSD) MODULE DTCS
DRIVETRAIN CONTROL MODULE (DTCM)

So you may want to check the connection at the ELSD module. The module is underneath the left side of the rear seat. You may have to remove the seat to get at it.

AlfaOBD should be able to read ELSD module codes, does it see it?

I just got lost in thought. It was unfamiliar territory;

Is there a diagram showing the location of the various control modules?

I don't recall seeing a good one that has all of them. The service manual would have locations of the individual modules. The online parts breakouts can provide clues.

Here is where it is suppose to be, under the rear seat on the driver's side. I have not physically checked, however.

I can not find the module anywhere in the passenger compartment. I have the passenger side rear seat removed for a dog ramp so I have a good view of the underside of the driver's side rear seat. There is no module there. I felt around and it doesn't appear to be under the carpet. I have 3 modules in the compartment under the driver's seat but none of them look like your picture. I searched the web and can't find a picture, video or how to article.

Hmm, You do have a 2011 USA Overland 4WD with the V8, right? What was the build date, I think QuadraDrive/ELSD was late availability. When you first get in to push the start, is it displaying QuadraDrive in the EVIC (between the speedo and tach)?

Just checking

Did you check under the carpet?

It is a 2011 USA Overland 4WD with the 5.7 V8. I don't know the build date. It displays Quadra-Drive II in the EVIC. I could not feel anything under the carpet or see any wires running in or out of the area.

I took a look at mine, there seems to be a formed carpet bulge there where the module should be located. There's a small wire there through the carpet for the heated seats I think, but the three cables to the module run directly through the floor via a grommet. All located under the carpet.

Thank you for your assistance. I appreciate it. I will have to remove the seat and check it this weekend.

I think you may just have to unbolt the front four bolts and flip the bottom cushion up.

I took my 2011 Jeep Overland 5.7 in to the dealership for my fuel pump relay recall. I asked them to check the 4WD system because of the warning light issue. It cost me $79.95. This is what was listed on my bill.

Service 4WD Light Is On
Light was not on when drove vehicle into shop
Checked codes - All stored codes - Activated 4WD through all modes and it shifted into all modes and set no codes
Working properly at this time

The counter person told me I didn't have to worry about the light as long as it didn't stay on. I told her when it goes on it stays on until I turn the Jeep off. She said as long as it doesn't stay on all the time it is OK.

I don't like lights that periodically go on because you never know if there is an important code being issued.
