Just ordered a 2021 Summit, what's different with it?

Hey guys. I went into the dealership today intent on putting in an order for a 2020 Summit with the options I want, and then was told that it's too late to get a 2020, and the options (and engine) that I want aren't really available in my area so I went ahead and ordered a 2021 Summit with the 5.7L Hemi, platinum group and I got it in the color I want which is the Ivory tri-coat. What do we know that is different on the 2021? I know there's so much speculation but what will be different that is known? Is it known if we'll see the 5th generation uConnect radio, or if it actually will be built on the Alpha Romero suspension/Chassis? My sales guy that I know and trust seems to think it's just going to be a new year with a few minor changes and that 2022 will be a complete redesign, but another friend that works for FCA is under the impression that 2021 is the redesign year. I'm not so sure that it will use the WG designation, as my order code for the option I got (4x4 Summit with a 5.7L) says WKJT74. Any input?

'21 will be the same as the '20 models, perhaps with minor trim/options changes. '21 is the redesign.

Oops. I meant 2022 is the redesign.

The news reports say they've delayed the production of the redesign (WL) and decided to keep producing WK2s as 2021s, the same as 2020s. 2021 is going to be a short model year.

Ahh okay, makes sense. I did notice that on the 2021 the option to order a Summit with the skid plate group wasn't an available option, it just gave the option for the nicer seats, platinum group, and the rear seat entertainment system.

Does anyone have a copy of the 2021 order guide? Very curious - I assume some option packages are simplified.

From ordering my 2021 yesterday, the only difference in options from the 2020 is that the 2021 does NOT have the option to be ordered with the skid plate group, but the options otherwise are the exact same from what I remember.

Chrysler retiree here and I just got a notification from Company Car that we are allowed to order some 2021 Jeeps at this time. Not the GC so far. However I logged on and all the Code Guides are there. These are the books with all the 3 letter designations of options to be ordered and prices and models and what options are allowed for what model.

I have a 2020 GC Trailhawk and pulled the CG for the 2021 model GCs. They look identical, the price for what I have for 2020 went up $13 for 2021. I am sure people here would love for me to post the code guides but I cannot in all good conscience. Looks like no change for 2021 really. Radio could be updated but who knows.

The Code Guides indicate that if you want skid plates, they are standard on the WKJR74 (Trailhawk) and part of the Offroad Adventure II package (AWY) available on WKJP74 (Limited) or WKJS74 (Overland) or AVT All weather trail rated package on the WKJH74 (Laredo). I see nothing for the Summit.

Get the Trailhawk.

Back when we used to order from paper forms, you have no idea what a nightmare this was. You had to check out the code guides and take them home overnight to fill out your order. I have ordered lease cars from Chrysler since 1984.

Thanks for all the info. Do you know if the north edition 2BN will be returning? Is the 80th edition essentially an appearance package on the Limited?

Generally the code guides are for company car lease ordering and don't list special promotional models which are mostly trim packages. They don't want us ordering these anyway. I did notice that on my 2020 Trailhawk the sunroof was now standard. I thought this odd as it was never standard before and I never would order one. When I picked it up I almost went back in the marshalling center where we pick up cars to complain they made a mistake. Then I checked the label and saw it was marked standard equipment, oh well. These are the only models listed in the 2021 guides.

I appreciate the input, but I ended up ordering a Summit. I don't necessarily "Need" the skid plate group, but figured if it was available for ~$300 it might be worth it since I'm getting 4x4, but it just wasn't an option you can order on the 2021 Summit anymore.

If you plan to take it off road, the factory skid plates are a good idea at a minimum.

You can get the plates in the accessory catalog and, except the fuel tank, they are simple to install. Raise to ORA II, place a couple jack stands for safety, scoot under, maybe 15 minutes. The fuel tank plates are a little harder because you need to loosen the tank mounding bolts and support the tank while you bolt up the plates.

For most model years, they wouldn't sell you an Overland with factory installed skid plates and 20 inch wheels, your choice was one or the other. For those wanting both, it made more economic sense (if you shopped a bit) to get the wheels from the factory and plates and OEM 18 inch wheels from the accessory catalog than getting the plates from the factory and then the 20 inch wheels from the accessory catalog.
