Grand Cherokee Panoramic Sunroof Issue

Good morning,

My new 2021 Grand Cherokee is the first panoramic roof I have ever owned. When I open the sunroof, right at the end of it's travel (to open) it makes a loud thud.
Same thing thing happens when I open it in vent mode and it closes. No vehicle of mine with a normal sunroof has ever done this including my 2015 GC but I am not sure if this is normal for a Panoramic roof. One side of me hopes it's normal because I don't like dealers for things like this but on the other hand, I can't see it being normal and if it is, seems to be a bad design.

Does anyone with a Panoramic roof experience this thud and if so, did the dealer fix it or are you living with it?

Thanks
TS

I have a 2011 so could be significant difference however mine is pretty smooth and no thud. The only noise I hear is the motor opening or closing it.

They are not suppose to thud. There is a calibration procedure around here somewhere that you may want to try before having the dealer look at it.

I just got lost in thought. It was unfamiliar territory;

I searched for the calibration procedure but I decided to signup for techauthority and I got the service manual pages downloaded.

Thanks for the suggestion of calibrating, I am going to give it a shot.

Calibration did not work in preventing the thud.

I'll double-check mine tonight, but haven't noticed a thud.

UPDATE: When the sunroof first begins to open there's a "thud." That's the only one, there's no noise when it fully opens, begins to close, or fully closes. The opening thud doesn't bother me, it's similar to the noise our two BMW hardtop convertibles made when beginning to open the roof. Sunroofs are presumably under tension to fully seal, and my Trailhawk's sunroof is completely watertight and operates correctly.

Cheers

the new-to-me 2017 had a thud the first few times I used the sun roof. But after using it a handful of times, it no longer does that. I also did pull down on the spring loaded trim piece between the 2 piece of glass a few times trying to find the source of the thud. That may have loosened something and helped too.

I will update after it goes in on Monday for it's 1st service, sunroof thud and peeling fender flares (both front sides). Truck has 1000 miles on it, ugh.
