First Off Road experience in my Overland

Hello all,

Today my wife an I decided to go on a little adventure to this place called, " El mirage " out in Palmdale, CA in our New to Us 2018 GC Overland.

El mirage is a big open desert with a dry lake that it is mostly known for but it is surrounded by off road trails everywhere you look. If I was looking for a place to try and challenge this vehicles 4x4 ability boy did I find it!

As advised by a member on here to give the stock tires a try, (20in bridge stones) so I did and I am just beyond amazed by how well it performed. I drove over loose grabble, dirt/sand, rocks, un even terrain and she just kept going!! not once did I have to use 4 low.

I did drive the whole time in off road 2 for the clearance and as well I am very satisfied by the air suspension, it is not harsh at all.

Check out some of these pics

Going fast is only half the fun... You get to build it first.

Perfect vehicle for this kind of off-roading. What kind of Bridgestone tires do you have?

Nothing along those trails that require OR2. You'll like the ride even more in OR1. Still plenty of clearance, even with stock tires. Really nice day trip if you're in So Cal.

It was amazing, only downside was being out there alone. I need some off road friends! haha

Ecopia h/l 422 plus... lol horrible reviews from what I seen, although most complains are about the tire not lasting past 20000 miles.. not so much performance.

Im sure you are correct, but it was my first time being off road and I would feel very dumb if I hit the oil pan or something when have the ability to raise it even higher, and yes it was an amazing day out here in Socal.

Went back out today with some friends and I definitely did more than I thought I could or should. I ended up slashing my front passenger tire on a steep hill going back up, it was loose rocks/dirt and rocks sticking out the dirt. The tires again performed amazing till this one part where I had to hit the gas and it ended up hitting a rock pretty hard. Luckily I had my spare tire and we were heading back already.
Again I am so impressed by the ability of this vehicle, its just amazing.

My group were two 4runners, both lifted and R/T tires and a brand new I think Nissan Titan off road package and myself.

This is the hill where I struggled coming back up and ended up slashing the front passenger tire. it was probably 100-150 feet from top to bottom.

I am so jealous, there is nothing like this where I live. I need to hit I5 and head south.

If you plan to do this regularly you need to get yourself some AT rated tires that have stronger sidewalls. You may also want to consider a full-size spare with the same tire as your regular wheels. Get that credit card ready!

Well I definitely got the Off Road BUG!! I can't wait to go back, luckily I already have an extra set of wheels and A/T tires I just took them off because the front rims were rubbing with the calipers but I ordered some 3mm spacers so hopefully next time Im out there I will have my A/T's ON.

If anyone knows how to upload videos on here let me know, id like to share some of what I did

I don't think they have video hosting active here. You'll have to upload your video to a video host/server, like Drop Box, YouTube, googledrive or iCloud. There are several others, some free for small storage. Then create a shared link (methods vary) and paste the link into a post here.

BTW, new members won't be able to post links until they are out of the probationary period.

I just got lost in thought. It was unfamiliar territory;

i imagine you just have quadra-trac ii and not quadra-drive ii? i think you'd need the off road ii package (trail rated package) in order to get quadra-drive ii.

Yes QD is not standard until you reach Summits. Overland does have a stand alone QD option available on V8s. It doesn't include the skid plates and the wheels/tires you get in the ORA package.
