Engine Temperature Question

2013 JGC Overland w/5.7. I suspect this is normal but asking to be sure. A couple of months ago, when it was colder/cooler, my temp gauge was roughly at the 1/4 way mark. On EVIC, it would read 190 to 204. Back and forth due to thermostat. Now since it's warmer, on the highway it reads 1/4 way mark or maybe one mark higher. Now in town in traffic with warmer temps, it will read from the 1/4 mark to nearly 1/2 way, 193 to 224 on EVIC while in traffic. Will drop back down when back on open road. I'm assuming this is normal. Radiator is full, tested coolant and reads ok, overflow is at correct level as well.

Is the fan spinning, and at more than idle speed when called for? The North American market 2013 Overland 4x4 has tow package standard, which includes the variable speed HD radiator fan.

I just got lost in thought. It was unfamiliar territory;

I'll have to check it when I go out again. That puppy is $$$! to replace.

They are expensive and a big job if you do it by the book. If you have a OBD scanner that can send commands to the PCM, you can easily test the fan.

Mine does the same. Electric fan. Thermostat opens at about 88 celcius, but, on idle or warmer temps, fan only starts at about 105 celcius, which is about the same as you. Found it weird as it is my first jeep, but totally normal after verification.

Fan will start at an higher temp then bring down the temp to about 88 celcius, then up to 105, then back to 88 and again. I see the needle rise and go down all the time. If I punch the jeep hard on the highway, the needle can almost reach 1/2 of the gauge and over 105celcius, but goes back down very fast.

Trucks with a clutch fan have a steady temperature because well.. the fan always turns.
