Chrome Blackout. Need Advise.

Hey guys. First post on this forum. I wanted your ideas on this collage I made of my current chrome trim (top pic) and the trim blackout I'm considering (bottom pic) using a basic paint program to roughly scratch out the unwanted chrome. I think it makes it look sportier.

Also I hear that just going to a pro to vinyl wrap this i the "best" way to do this?

Welcome! I prefer the blacked out trim on a black vehicle. It’s one of the reasons I went with the Trailhawk.

Hi and welcome aboard. There are many threads on here about blacking out the chrome trim. Use the search feature at the top of the page under Tools and search for "chrome" and specify the "WK2 Grand Cherokee Forum" in the search parameters.

Here are a few of them:

I did a blackout on mine. It was fairly easy using plasti-dip and rubs off easily if you have any overspray.

Vinyl wrap works excellent for covering chrome especially flat or some what flat areas. Many folks are applying it themselves with success. Tint shops are a good source to have a pro do the work. For more intricate areas such as blacking out chrome emblems and such Plastidip works great and is very forgiving. I believe you can also purchase black or paintable covers for the door handles (something else to search).

I did the plasti dip, looks good, not extremely durable though, have a few spots on the grill and one corner of trim where its peeling, easy to touch up though.

I even did the chrome on the roof rails and all badges.

How do you suggest to touch up that makes it looks blended in with the old Plasti dip.

Buy the door handle covers online. If you want them a different color then scuff them up and spray paint them.

I did my door handles, logos, side mirrors, trunk bumper front grille inserts, and lower fascia. The door handles are though because they are a high touch area, no pun intended, so I would recommend getting the covers. Everything else is holding up well though.
