buying used.. need advice

Looking to buy a used Grand Cherokee.
Looking into updating to a Grand Cherokee - Limited 4x4.. and getting rid of our 2007 Ford Explorer.

Not sure why, but prices for both 2015 and 2106, and occasionally 2017 models
all closely priced with similar mileage for the Limited.

Is there a BEST year of these 3.. or is there one year that I should stay away from?

Where can I find a place to see what prices are going for, so I can get a good deal.

KBB and Edmunds will give you an idea on prices, but getting a great deal will take some leg work.

There was a light styling refresh in 2016, and the V6 PUG update improved V6 performance. Features were added to the safety packages. The V6 ESS was also introduced. So if you don’t like start/stop, stick with the 2015, or buy a V8. That may be why the prices are similar.

I just got lost in thought. It was unfamiliar territory;

The 2015 model will also have the electronic shifter that many people seem to dislike (I love mine!). 2016 and later went back to the old fashioned conventional version.

Having owned a early build 14 V6, 15 V8, and now a 18 V6. all Overlands. If you plan to tow a lot I would buy the Hemi. The 16 V6 upgrade made a significant improvement in my experience and I would buy a 16 V6 or later V6 if at all possible. A Limited is a great choice as it does not have the air suspension and repairs are costly when the air suspension fails. Trip mileage on the engines would be about the same but in town I am doing 4 mpg better with the V6. A lot of the mileage around town was probably caused by pure joy of driving the Hemi's I owned. So I would suggest you buy the one that you like and enjoy it. Good luck to you.

based on my ownership experience and being on this forum for almost 4 years..make that more than 5 years...

This is what I would buy (regardless of trim/features):

2013 - doesn't matter
2014 - V8 only
2015- -V8 and diesel
2016 and beyond - doesn't matter which engine

Good luck!

Check out the diesel threads on this forum before buying a diesel. Unless you do a lot of heavy towing or have a diesel fetish, I would steer clear.

Bought a 2017 Limited and love it, so far. Can't speak to the other years but I really like mine.
