5.7 Incorrect oil dipstick

My 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 came from the factory fitted with the wrong dipstick.
the incorrect dipstick part number ends in C, the correct one ends in D. verified by the dealer but they think i am crazy, but was not going to argue with them over the $16 the new one cost.
the new one is the longer

7 Qts installed with the incorrect dipstick reads right at the 2nd D on ADD, it is hard to see in the pics.

7 Qts and you can see that with the correct dipstick is spot on the full mark

here you can see the old dipstick with the incorrect part number ending in C next to the new correct part number seen on the label

thanks to all in my original thread https://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f309/...ndrum-3782970/ maybe this can get made into a Sticky to help others.

Thanks, nice write up. Added to the maintenance/repair index (a sticky thread).

All 5.7s are made in the same Mexican factory. So you could envision that they pulled the wrong dipstick off the shelf for the Jeep 5.7. But I think it was more likely a supplier problem. A batch of dipsticks (or perhaps tubes) for a different tube application was stamped with the wrong part number. It happens.

My 2011 has AD, but the dealer does my oil changes and they may have changed it without mentioning it.

I just got lost in thought. It was unfamiliar territory;

Just got an oil change at the dealership. Verified I have the incorrect dipstick on my 2014 5.7L Overland. Ends in C and was showing a qt low. Ordered the new replacement. Right on the money. Thanks everyone!

Yes, this is a "known issue" with the earlier year JGCs, but not many owners "know" about it...

My 15 GC SRT also had a wrong dip stick. Learned about it before I had a oil change done.

If you like it, buy it!!!!

The dealer I went to said the tech could only find the TSB for the SRT8 JGC for the incorrect dipstick, I asked him to check again and he refused. So I went and ordered the dipstick from them and had to call FCA and had a case filed and FCA sent me a check. Never going back to that dealer or at least the SA, lol.

This f*ck up effects all 2011~2015 WK2's equipped with 5.7L hemi engines.
Here a link to the TSB; The SRT hemi's also came with the wrong dipstick but that is covered under a different TSB.

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_0901015.pdf

Notice how it only covers 2014~2015 model years...that's because the 2011~2013 models that also came from the factory floor with incorrect dipsticks are no longer covered under the 3yr/36K mile bumper to bumper warrantee!

Wow I have officially seen it all! I just changed my GF's oil on her 2011 with the 5.7 and put in close to 7.5qts. Just to confirm if her car has the dipstick ending in C that is indeed the incorrect dipstick and the one ending in D is the correct replacement?

Also, you're telling me that if the car did come with the C dipstick its the wrong one yet Ill have to fork over the $16 for it?

That is borderline insane! This also means I should drain out some oil...How can Chrysler possibly justify this and put this on us?

Geeze... this explains why I always complained that after a dealer-performed oil change I was 3/4 quart low! I would fill it each time to compensate. Looks like I should get a new stick for my 2011 Overland (purchased new Oct 2010 and has about 45K miles). Thanks for the info

I ran across this a few months ago and jeep replaced mine with the correct one while I was covered under certified pre-owned warranty. The TSB on this also mentions the blue smoke on start up issue with the Hemi which I experienced twice while being overfilled on oil due and to the wrong dip stick and parked uphill on my driveway. I haven't seen the smoke on startup since I had it replaced and removed some of the old so it had the right amount.
