2017 Trailhawk problems

A couple months back (November 21st) I got the bright idea to trade in my trouble free 2015 WRX on this certified preowned 2017 Trailhawk w/ 44k miles. The first 2 months, 2500ish miles went great, then, on my way to work the ABS, stability control, and service 4WD lights came on. I take it to the dealer(different dealer than where I bought it from), they tell me it needs a rear wheel bearing at a cost of $785, not covered by warranty.

After several phone calls, as far as I can tell, the dealer I bought it from never entered the 3 month/3000 mile warranty into the computer, I've contacted them and they claim everything is correct on their end. I've contacted Chrysler warranty, mopar vehicle protection, Chrysler certified preowned, and jeep customer service and no one seems able to help.

Not about to spend another $800 (on top of the $600 I've already spent on diagnostic and rental car fees) I install a new wheel bearing and a new ABS sensor and the lights are still on.

Honestly at my wits end with this thing and about ready to trade it in on something else

Do you not have any factory warranty remaining? Isn't the powertraing 3yr/60k miles? Has the dealer you purchased from offered to diagnose the vehicle and cover the issues under that original warranty?

why is my jeep always breaking???

Buy the max care extended warranty.

Certified pre-owned ones only come with a 3 month warranty?

Shouldn’t it be covered under the powertrain warranty?

Nevermind, found it:

Jeep's certified pre-owned (CPO) program offers two main benefits: a 3-month or 3,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that starts at the end-of-factory bumper-to-bumper coverage and a 2-year extension on the factory powertrain warranty that brings the total powertrain-coverage figure to 7 years or 100,000 miles.

Powertrain warranty:

All Wheel Drive (AWD):
power transfer unit and all internal parts; viscous cou- pler; axle housing and all internal parts; constant velocity joints and boots; driveshaft and axle shaft assemblies; differential carrier assembly and all internal parts; output ball bearing; output flange; end cover; overrunning clutch; vacuum motor; torque tube; pinion spacer and shim, seals and gaskets for listed components only.
Rear Wheel Drive:
rear axle housing and all internal parts; axle shafts; axle shaft bearings; drive shaft assemblies; drive shaft center bearings; universal joints and yokes; seals and gaskets for listed components only.

The powertrain warranty does not cover wheel bearings, does cover the half shafts. I've had to do both on my KK.

Do you have the codes? A wheel sensor, steering angle sensor, speed sensor, brake switch, bad connection, tone wheel, ABS module, low battery can all cause those lights.The wheel bearing may have been bad, but its not going to cause that code unless the tone wheel was affected.

Perhaps my Lifetime Max Care Warranty is different from the Factory Powertrain warranty.
My warranty states:
FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE (4x4): Transfer Case and all Internal Parts; Axle Housing and all Internal Parts; Axles Shafts; Axle Shaft Bearings; Drive Shafts Assemblies (Front and Rear); Drive Shaft Center Bearings; Wheel Bearings; Universal Joints and Yokes; Disconnect Housing Assembly; Seals and Gaskets.

2004 Jeep Overland WJ 4.7 H.O. (Bought new in Oct 2003)
2014 Jeep Overland WK2 5.7 Hemi (Bought used in 2016 w/7k miles)

Yes, MaxCare goes beyond the Factory Powertrain type warranty mentioned as part of the certified pre-owned deal. MaxCare is similar to the Factory bumper to bumper warranty.

I love jeeps; i hate their service...both mechanical and customer. Despite what your extended contract states, they can and will find other reasons why not to cover them. I'm in the middle of a contract dispute myself, but I'm not giving up on my 3rd of 4 jeeps. Don't give up.

When I put in my information on the MVP website, the 7 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty is listed, but the 3 month/3,000 mile warranty is not. Wheel bearings are listed under the 4WD/AWD section as being covered, however, what I was told by 2 different dealerships is that only front wheel bearings are covered, rear are not.

The codes listed on the paperwork from the dealer are U1412-00, and C003A-1D

Dealers simply plug in the repair codes and the FCA computer tells them if the repair is covered by a warranty. If they think somethings not right they contact FCA. If you think somethings not right, there is customer assistance, member jeepcares here or call/email them, contact info on jeep.com.

C003A-1D is Right Rear Wheel sensor current out of range. This gets set when the sensor fails the diagnostic test..

Ui412-00 is an implausible vehicle speed signal received from the ABS module by the PCM (invalid message or not received as expected)

CAN C BUS OPEN OR SHORTED CONDITION
NO POWER TO ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MODULE - MODULE UNPLUGGED OR OPEN FUSE
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)


That usually adds up to an PCM module failure, but could be the ABS module or a bad connection or low battery.

There are other ABS faults that could result from a bad bearing, but not likely these.

After DTC reset, sometimes you have to do several minutes of driving above 10mph for the fault light to clear.

This is a 2011 diagram, the 2017 is probably similar.
