Who absolutely hated the Navy?

I did . It was the dumbest organization I have ever been a part of. I LOVED my job, I mean LOVED LOVED LOVED it. I was an HT2 (welder, fabricator). I loved traveling and got to see some cool stuff.
But the rest of it sucked. Going out to sea every other week for sea trials, being treated like crap just because you're enlisted and not some "straight out of the academy" officer prick. Being told how to dress, even when you're off duty. Then, when I got my divorce, nobody in my chain of command would back me up. They handed her everything on a silver platter and told me to go kick rocks. And I wasn't some dirt bag PO2. I never got below an Early Promote for the entire 3.5 years onboard my ship. Too many dirty politics for me, I had to get out. Just thought I'd share my experience. Anyone else have a crummy military experience?

The military is what you make of it. I loved the Navy, when we would ride on ships providing security through certain parts of the world, the navy took care of us Marines. plus the chow was always better on navy bases. a fat marine is a happy marine

No active duty experience here except for training, etc. but I was in the Navy Reserve for 9 years. Great experience for me. Spent most of the time as Field Medical Corpsman with a Marine reserve artillary unit and enjoyed every minute of it. Sure, a different experience than active duty (was always nice to know that after living in the woods or desert for a weekend or a couple of weeks I could go home and drive my Jeep). I recommend a start in the military to every young person I know.

No, the Naval Academy beats West Point in football every year. Don't connect me to those assclown cadets.

I totally agree. I'm not saying Im not glad I did it. It saved my life honestly. Got me out of my crappy town and away from the drugs I was on. The best times of my life were in the navy. Made a man outta me, recommend it to everyone coming out of high school

Hmmm... I'd say you shouldn't be an officer with your attitude.

im an EN3(diesel mechanic) now. been in for 4 yrs.

again the navy is what you make of it. i really dont mind the job i just hate being gone all the time.

done 2 tours to Iraq and now leave again in less than 2 weeks for my first "real" navy deployment on a ship.

once i get back i'll probably re-enlist for 2 yrs or so for shore duty and try to knock out some schooling before i get out...

Did almost 8 years, got out of it what I put into it. GI Bill and saw the world. My son's in now and says it is different than when I was in.

Not just the Navy, but the military, isn't for everyone. For me, it was a great experience. It offered me opportunities I never would have had without it. My grades in high school were good, but not good enough for a free ride in college. My family had some money, but not enough to cover the rest. I gave the Navy my best and it returned the favor.

Not sure if the generosity means more to me because I am a first generation American in my family, but I never would have had the same opportunities in my country of origin. My Dad was born in the Philippines and retired a Master Chief in the US Navy. I was born in CA and lived in about every state with a Navy base.

I enlisted in the Navy for two reasons:
1. To help pay for my education
2. So I enter OCS (Office Candidate School) and have my Dad call me Sir in front of his shipmates.

I would have gladly made the military a career, but my health had other ideas. Luckily for me, I made some good sacrifices and choices while I was in and I don't have to rely on anyone to support me. I could have qualified for some financial aid program, but I have too much pride for that.

No regrets.
