Marine Corps PFTs....

Holy balls.

I was almost at 100% PFT for the Army...

I took a practice Marine Corps IFT today,
For the Corps I made the IFT run with only a few minutes to go, I only beat the minimum pull ups by 5 and passed the crunches by five.

If I took the PFT right now, I estimate I'd get around a 130/300. Passing, but when you're at like 270 with the Army PFT and go to 130 with the Marine PFT...what the heck?

Semper Fi....now lemme go make sure I memorize all 11 general orders so I don't throw away a commission, and I'll go study up on Bellaeu-Wood and Cunningham and.....

I guess what's killing me on the PFT is that I've been practicing pushups this whole time and now all of a sudden that's not a requirement anymore, but pullups are.

Pull ups and crunches are your money makers....right there that's 200 points relatively easy. Build up your pull ups by doing some pyramid workouts....1-2-3-4-3-2-1 and such....taking a small break in between sets. Crunches is ALL technique...get your elbows low down almost to your pelvis...and think of it AS a crunch...not a full sit up. The only way you're gonna get a good run time is to run...alot...and run some more...and more. Just make sure you're stretching, hydrating and have got a good set of running shoes...you do not want shin splints...trust me on that one. If you have any questions about anything USMC...there's a few of us Leathernecks on the forum that would be more than happy to help you out.

My final PFT in Boot camp (1980)
I did 18 pull ups
96 sit ups in 2 min. (sit ups, not crunches)
3 mile run- 18:30

The best way to build up your pull up strength is Ladders...
1,2,3,4,5 etc. Dont go to failure, and always drop back down to 1 and go back up.
So if you can do 6 reps comfortably, it would be like this..
1,2,3,4,5,6 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc..

1,2,3,4,5,6 = 21 reps without wearing you down
