Preventive mechanics....

Alternator, started to sound abnormal yesterday... carbons, plus bearings.

One breakdown avoided...

Today I removed the rock sliders and front recovery bar to have them sand blasted and powder coated. I have ATH’s new roof rack going in for coating as well. The old rack is off. The Jeep is looking kinda naked!

Also got an oil change. 160937 miles!

Today alternator died, beyond repair...

New one coming.... Luckily found one in the local market.

Advice, never jump start another car...

Last week I did it twice....

Starter getting preventive check-up, just in case...

Chevereco, your KK’s gears are looking good!

Today I noticed that I passed 163K miles, which means I’ve been lifted for 103K miles and I’ve been running the same set of Duratracs for 90,000! I had 5 tires that I kept in rotation every 3-6,000 miles until last year when one got an unfixable gash in the sidewall. Now the remaining 4 are still going strong, if a bit loud on the highway. They have about 40% tread depth left, but are starting to get a little dry rot after 6 years in the sun. I will certainly get Duratracs again when the time comes.

Amazing tires, With me the best that I get is 3 years, no matter the brand.

I need some advice, on how to improve the headlights of the Jeep, very dark, and foggy roads.

Low and ultra low beams is what I get...

Been thinking in a Frankenstein adaptation from some sort of Toyota Lite-Ace or something similar that fits in the space...

Last night it was scary driving like that, with the Halogens it's okay when is not foggy, and no cars coming the opposite...

Any advice will be well accepted.

Regards

I want to do an HID projector retrofit like a Morimoto D2S 5.0 kit, but I’d need an extra $500 kicking around...

https://www.theretrofitsource.com/bi...-stage-iv.html

In the short term I ordered a Sylvania headlight restoration kit from Amazon so that I could at least remove the oxidation and restore the clarity of my current lenses. That’s only about $20 so much easier on the budget.

I also run Phillips Vision Plus or Sylvania Silverstar bulbs, which helps a little.

Service Mgr. Education

Picked up my '08 Limited from a central Iowa dealer on 9-09-19. Had their Service Mgr. watch a video of the beast from last Wednesday (9-04-19) that had locked all of the doors while my wife was inside the vehicle. The rear widow washer was pumping fluid, the front wipers were operating, and the horn was blaring. All of this went down while in our garage and she hadn't even started it yet. Then I presented a printed TSB describing the prescribed "fix" from Jeep. Received a call from the Service Mgr. last Thursday saying they couldn't duplicate the problem and detected no error codes. I've had the same conversation with 3 different dealerships and this time I held firm telling him to order the WCM, install it, program it, then call me when that was all completed. Been driving it for the last 3 days and no issues yet. Why these guys don't want to perform the required work, as stated by Jeep, to resolve customer issues is beyond me. Now I hear the powers that be in Detroit want to start building stand alone Jeep stores nationwide? Maybe they had better invest more time and $$$ in technical training and customer service. Ok, I feel better now.

AtTheHelm’s front recovery bar is back from the powder coater and back on!

Front bumper cover had to come off.

This time I’m using stainless hardware.

And done. Love the look. ATH hasn’t made these in a long time so I’m glad I snagged one back in the day.
