looking to purchase - common issues to look for?

Looking to buy a KK Liberty for my mother in law. I haven't had much experience with Libertys, so hopefully you guys can shed some light.

What are common issues to watch for?
Are some years better than others, and why?
Anything to avoid?

Thanks for your time.

Avoid the Skyslider. I love mine, but it was an absolute pain to get fixed.

Looking to keep it stock or mod?

2011+ has the refreshed interior. You can only put a hypertech tuner on 08-10s. 08-09 seems to have the fuel burp issue(that's covered by the warranty). It's more common those years, but I've seen 1 '11 do it.

Pretty solid vehicle, just know that gas mileage sucks. Most see around 15-17mpg mixed driving, some more, some less. It has quirks, just check over everything to make sure it's all mechanically sound.

So she might enjoy an 11 or 12 more then. That will have the "nicer" interior, steering wheel controls, etc.

As for options, most things can be added. 4x4, evic, and roof mods(sunroof, sky slider) are about the only things that can't be added.

yea her budget is $12k, so most of what is in that range is 2008-2010 models.

Any input on the longevity of the 3.7L or the trans/transfer case?

The "refresh" on the interior was only the steering wheel and center stack colors for the Limited...

Every other part in my 2010 is the same as a 2011 / 2012.

A 2010

A 2011

As for issues with the drive train.... those are darn rugged. You need to obviously make sure it was taken care of.

Also, drive it and pay real close attention to any vibrations... don't assume it is just a warped rotor or tires... ask how I know......

Do a search here on vibrations. In a nutshell, it can be driveline related or software related as well. Just make sure that any you test drive you take on a smooth highway and is acceptable. See, that is the other factor here, some people don't feel them as being bad. Mine hasn't exposed an actual mechanical failure, yet.

Drinking coffee this morning so a did a cars.com search for some in the price range. Kept the mileage under 100K..

An 08 Limited with 86k, no nav, no sunroof, no Auto-Climate Control, but heated seats and stuff...

http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/de...17/overview/#1

Here is a 2012 Sport with 57k. Looks pretty basic but does have the foglamps...$12,900... but pretty sure you could get them down some.

http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/de...6667/overview/

Another Sport, with 67k, more equipped, with a sunroof (not a sky slider). Again, 12,900 but could get them down.

Strange... even when looking at $20k and up Limited and Limited Jet ones, none of them have Selec-Trac, they were all Command-Trac. Mine is rarer than I thought.... LOL.

so the #1 right now is this one. 2008 Limited with Selec-Trac and the Skyslider roof. Gonna take a trip to go see it in person next Saturday and possibly throw down the cash if everything looks as good in person as it does on paper.

i thought about that, but i don't think that's what it is. Salesman said he thinks it's the degreaser the shop uses to clean up the engine bay. He's gonna send me better photos soon he says

got a better photo from the dealership - seems the detail department went a little overboard with the pressure washer on the firewall liner, thus the pink foam showing through.

If this is the only issue I don't think I care very much
