Jeep Liberty 2008 Code P0507: Idle Air Control RPM Higher than Expected

Hi,

I searched for the code in this forum and couldn't find anything. A friend failed inspection and I pulled codes P0507 and C1403. I think P0507 is what I need to fix to help him pass inspection. What are the most common cause for this code? I only have a limited time to work on his Jeep and I would like to minimize that time.

Thanks in advance,
George

P0507-IDLE SPEED PERFORMANCE HIGHER THAN EXCEPTED, pretty clear - the engine RPM at idle is higher than expected. @200RPM higher.

Confirm jeep is STOCK, clean TB, check for vacuum leaks.

AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM
PCV SYSTEM LEAKS OR RESTRICTIONS
ENGINE VACUUM LEAKS
THROTTLE BODY

FYI shoould not be an inspection issue.
C1403-TRANSFER CASE RANGE POSITION SENSOR PERFORMANCE

When I see the price of OEM I think aftermarket.
When I see the quality of aftermarket I think OEM.

I have been watching YouTube videos on how to clean the throttlebody. On a 2008,there’s hardly any videos out there so I’m thinking the TB changed that year. Do I remove the whole TB? Is there anything I should watch out for? He’s bringing the Jeep over in about 5 hours. Thanks!

I believe the 2007 and 2008 are the same, use the attached manuals to get you started.

See if the 2007 or 2008 manual is in link.

This is correct for the engine, engine electronics, and throttle body. The 2007 is the previous body style, and 2008 is the more recent body style— so they will look different on the outside.

Well, I took off the TB and cleaned it. Checked all the vacuum hoses and found the culprit, the dreaded emissions elbow had a huge hole in it. No one had any in stock, so I got a piece of hose that fit and it’s fixed. Thanks for the help guys! He has a lot more issues with the Liberty, so I’ll be around on this forum.
