Cruise Control sometimes refuses to turn on

I have a 2012 Jeep Liberty with relatively low mileage.

I find that some days when I try to turn on cruise control, it simply refuses to turn on. When this happens, it usually does this all day, even if I stop and park for a while. Other days it works perfectly fine. I used to think it was cold days it refused to turn on, but that's not consistent.

I could bring it in to be serviced, but I thought I would ask about this first to see if there is an easy solution. Is there anything I can do before I give up and bring it in?

My switch has been giving me issues. I can enable cruise. I have to push down hard to lock in a speed. If I try to cancel cruise via the switch, it will disable cruise until I restart. Switches are cheap and relatively easy to change. The alternative is to hook up a scan tool and see if the switch inputs are being seen by the computer.

Could be a TIPM glitch? The scan tool sounds like a good idea, to begin thinking about trouble-shooting. I keep putting it off because the issue is only occasional.
