2008 KK Limited - Won't start

Hey.. I have a buddy who has a 2008 KK Limited that won't start. You turn the key and nothing. I have checked the battery. It has 12v. Everything works that runs off the battery. You can hear the relays kick when you click on start. I put a scanner on it and no errors were found. I am thinking it might be his starter. I hit it with an extension/hammer combo a couple of times but that trick didn't work. It has a 150k+ miles on it. Most of it's life was up north. Lots of rust. What do you guys think? Starter or look somewhere else?

Thanks and 73's.

Got to put a meter on the 2 starter posts and see what you're missing. If nothing, then you can call the starter.

That is a great idea.. I didn't think of that when I was over there.. I plan on going back over on Saturday. I will report back on what I find out.

Thanks and 73's..

Ok.. It was the starter. We checked the battery and it was fine. We then cleaned off the terminals to make sure to have good contact. As my buddy turned the key, a nice arching sound.. POOF!! Smoke from the starter. It was pretty cool. I am just glad it didn't catch the Jeep on fire. I told him when he gets a starter, I would help him put it in.. Thanks for the help and suggestions.
