Key Fob problem? 2005 Jeep Liberty

2005 Jeep Liberty Limited (3.7) 188,000 miles / well maintained

My key fob will intermittently lock and unlock the doors. I changed battery and put in a new one - same results. I only have 1 key and cannot test another key.

There is no pattern, it just works when it wants to! This just started in the past two weeks. Anyone face this before?

Thanks,

SUP

Looks like no one has dealt with this before. I am going to take the key to the dealership and have them make a new key. This is the original key and has been dropped, etc.

Will report back.

$325 to make a new key with the remote features. I went and made a regular key and will forget the remote.

A new to me 2005 Liberty Sport has a fob that doesn't work, even after a 2032 battery replacement. Is this battery size correct? I wonder if it transmits and the receiver isn't working. How can I troubleshoot either the fob or the car without any known good examples to substitute?

The dealer wants about $60 for six seconds with his rf detector 9001 to verify that the failure is the transmitter, aka the fob. A couple of local shops which claim some mopar specialization haven't responded. Quotes for a non-remote chip key are $90 and $40 so far.

A good locksmith may also be able to test your fib as well as cut and program a new key.
